Was the absorbing detail of the \u003Cb\u003EMoon \u003C\/b\u003Ea fluke? Did we read more than there was in \u003Cb\u003EMoon\u003C\/b\u003E?  Was the double teaming of \u003Cb\u003EDuncan Jones\u003C\/b\u003E \u0026amp; \u003Cb\u003ESam Rockwell \u003C\/b\u003Ea unique combination? Will \u003Cb\u003EDuncan Jones\u003C\/b\u003E follow a “one for me one for the studios” film making policy? \u003Cb\u003EMoon \u003C\/b\u003Ewas great, but will changing the format stretch \u003Cb\u003EDuncan Jones\u003C\/b\u003E’ stylised vision? Read on pilgrim, but of course none of that should matter. The real question is, is \u003Cb\u003ESource Code\u003C\/b\u003E enjoyable?\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003ESource Code\u003C\/b\u003E starts with a flyover of a large, beautiful modern city which we later find out to be Chicago, the style of camera work feels very 70s and this is supported by the sparse linear titles and intrigue inducing electrotastic theme. I slide back a little more comfortable in my seat looks like Jones is tapping into 70s sensibilities like he did with \u003Cb\u003EMoon \u003C\/b\u003Eto convey his vision. If the title sequence alone is evoking this kind of dramatic any thing can happen atmosphere I know I’m in for a ride.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EAfter flying over some landscape we zoom into a double decker train and introduced to Sean Fentress (\u003Cb\u003EJake Gyllenhaal\u003C\/b\u003E) and Christina (\u003Cb\u003EMichelle Monaghan\u003C\/b\u003E) two passengers on the train. Sorry other 11% if you don’t want mild spoilers skip to the end). OK! So you know that \u003Cb\u003EJake Gyllenhaal\u003C\/b\u003E is playing Colter Stevens, playing Sean Fentress. Despite my making it sound very complicated it really isn’t if you are adapt at following any Sci-Fi based narrative. Colter is part of an experimental military program that can send him back in time for 8 mins at a time, which is handy because that’s exactly when a bomb goes off destroying the train. But it’s not going back in time its going into the \u003Cb\u003ESource Code\u003C\/b\u003E sort of like an alternative reality after burn of what has already taken place. He certainly carries that theme forward with \u003Cb\u003ESource Code\u003C\/b\u003E. Like \u003Cb\u003EMoon \u003C\/b\u003Ethe magic of \u003Cb\u003ESource Code\u003C\/b\u003E is high concept sci-fi delivered in a simplistic way focusing more on people and emotion.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWhich means that for \u003Cb\u003ESource Code\u003C\/b\u003E to work - performances are key. The cast are rather good and easily the best thing about \u003Cb\u003ESource Code \u003C\/b\u003E– it’s easy to buy into \u003Cb\u003EJake Gyllenhaal\u003C\/b\u003E as a reluctant conflicted hero on a mission.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cb\u003EMichelle Monagha\u003C\/b\u003En is engaging as she iteratively progresses from travel commute buddy. Just prior to seeing \u003Cb\u003ESource Code\u003C\/b\u003E I caught him at “Peoples” in \u003Cb\u003EShaft \u003C\/b\u003Eand again, despite competing with \u003Cb\u003ESamuel L Jackson\u003C\/b\u003E and \u003Cb\u003EChristian Bale\u003C\/b\u003E he was possibly the most  interesting character to watch in the film. \u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EFor \u003Cb\u003EDuncan Jones\u003C\/b\u003E fans I spotted two refrences, one early on that is a reference to \u003Cb\u003EMoon \u003C\/b\u003Eand then around the three quarter mark there is a broader Sci-Fi reference. Both involve a mobile phone ;)\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EDespite the repeated explosions and one really dodgy CGI bomb blast \u003Cb\u003ESource Code\u003C\/b\u003E is a tense little thriller with a Sci-Fi edge more about emotion than guns \u0026amp; explosions. The RI’s goal is to connect people with science and my guest \u0026amp; I certainly did embrace the World of Science on the evening. This was actually a double hit for me -  as I had planned to visit the RI at some point. The artwork is very reminiscent of \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.sydmead.com\/\"\u003ESyd Mead's\u003C\/a\u003E conceptual art for Blade Runner. Interesting to note that the signage in the street scene says \u003Cspan style=\"font-style: italic;\"\u003EFremde\u003C\/span\u003E which is German for strange, but could also mean foreign or Alien. Jones has said that Mute is not about Aliens as such. I'm guessing that this scene is some high class clientele leaving a  bar\/club that caters for strange tastes. This is possibly the club that the lead's girlfriend works at before disappearing. It’s a thriller based in a future Berlin…. For the contract's entire duration, he is the sole employee based at their lunar station. There is no direct communication link available between the lunar station and Earth, so his only direct real-time interaction is with GERTY, the intelligent computer whose function is to attend to his day to day needs.
