To being utterly astonished by my first viewing of \u003Cb\u003EHeadhunters\u003C\/b\u003E. I knew that festival audiences had received it well but nothing quite prepared me for the fun ride that \u003Cb\u003EHeadhunters \u003C\/b\u003Edelivers. I liked it so much that I went to see it again, so my wife a fan of crime fiction could enjoy it. If you remember I was lucky enough to take the lady along to one of the special Valentine’s screenings of \u003Cb\u003ETitanic 3D\u003C\/b\u003E back in February - which you can read about \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.theestablishingshot.com\/2012\/02\/establishing-shot-are-you-ready-to-go.html\"\u003Ehere\u003C\/a\u003E! But the opportunity to see a modern masterpiece screened in the stately surroundings of The Royal Albert Hall on what would surely be the pinnacle of 3D projection units was too good to pass up.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003EIn the lead up to the premiere there was little to no fanfare - that combined with \u003Cb\u003EJames Cameron\u003C\/b\u003E being on an \u003Cb\u003EAvatar 2\u003C\/b\u003E inspired research mission to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the world’s oceans around the same time as the premiere, led me to believe that this would be a fairly low key affair.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003EHow wrong I was, as low key in this case turned out to mean dignified yet epic, very much in line with what one would expect from the world premiere of the epic romantic disaster film that won 11 Academy Awards and held the position of highest grossing film of all time for 12 years until Cameron’s \u003Cb\u003EAvatar \u003C\/b\u003Eknocked it off its pedestal. jovial dinner hall amongst the final 28 International nominees (5 from the UK) and their teams - you could be forgiven for thinking that the film-makers invited from all corners of the planet were party mad funsters. Tim also got some cracking pictures and video (further below) of the on set action. Tim\u0026#39;s photos show a Skyfall helicopter possibly commandeered by Captain Marc Wolff filming a military helicopter with some strange emblems above the Manor House\/Monastery.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003EThis afternoon they were rehearsing a helicopter sequence. I went mainly to get a better understanding of \u003Cb\u003ENicolas Cage \u003C\/b\u003Ethe man behind the tabloid headlines whose films have made close to £3 Billion and hopefully get the chance to talk comics and films with the actor.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003EDuring the 30 minute discussion which included some baiting and frankly bizarre questions asked of \u003Cb\u003ENicolas Cage\u003C\/b\u003E I did indeed get some of the way to understanding the man - as well as talk comics with Cage.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003ESince watching \u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.theestablishingshot.com\/2012\/02\/establishing-shot-ghost-rider-spirit-of.html\"\u003EGhost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/b\u003E (my review of which can be found over \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.theestablishingshot.com\/2012\/02\/establishing-shot-ghost-rider-spirit-of.html\"\u003Ehere\u003C\/a\u003E!) and this press conference my enthusiasm for some of \u003Cb\u003EMarvel\u0026#39;\u003C\/b\u003Es less well known and older original comic titles from it’s Curtis brand imprint has been reinvigorated and I have set about scouring London\u0026#39;s comic shops and online auctioneers for titles like; \u003Cb\u003EDeadly Hands of Kung Fu\u003C\/b\u003E, \u003Cb\u003EDoc Savage\u003C\/b\u003E, \u003Cb\u003EKull and the Barbarians\u003C\/b\u003E, \u003Cb\u003EMonsters of the Movies\u003C\/b\u003E, \u003Cb\u003ERampaging Hulk\u003C\/b\u003E and \u003Cb\u003ESavage Sword of Conan\u003C\/b\u003E.  All classic stuff that never carried the Comics Code Authority seal and has subsequently been forgotten. But there is a wealth of imagination and untapped source material waiting to be re-discovered and hopefully with time permitting over the months I’ll post about some of the titles I find.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003EAlthough \u003Cb\u003ENicolas Cage \u003C\/b\u003Edid not jump on the table shouting \u003Cb\u003ELULU \u003C\/b\u003Eas I was hoping - he came across as a dedicated professional, who takes his work very seriously and throws himself wholeheartedly into every project he is involved in - as is with the case of  \u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.theestablishingshot.com\/2012\/02\/establishing-shot-ghost-rider-spirit-of.html\"\u003EGhost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/b\u003E  showing in cinemas now. Cage was surprisingly open and frank about many aspects of his career and the making of \u003Cb\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.theestablishingshot.com\/2012\/02\/establishing-shot-ghost-rider-spirit-of.html\"\u003EGhost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance\u003C\/a\u003E. \u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cb\u003ENicolas Cage\u003C\/b\u003E was very entertaining and had the room laughing out loud on more than one occasion - so it probably worth noting that some of the comments below may read a bit strange or off the wall when removed out of the context of the fairly jovial atmosphere of the room that they were made in.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Ca I decided to take a break and have a walk around as I had been in sessions since I arrived early in the morning. I thought I would head to the \u003Cb\u003ELive Quarter\u003C\/b\u003E and check out \u003Cb\u003EHollywood Boulevard\u003C\/b\u003E and \u003Cb\u003EStudio City\u003C\/b\u003E.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cb\u003E     BIG SCREEN\u003C\/b\u003E is the first film convention that schedules and maps were supplied at the entrance as well as in my press pack (thank you it was noticed and appreciated) which didn’t help me as I left my pack in the press room.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003E     No worries as there were large maps located where footfall traffic converged. Almost everyone from the outstanding \u003Cb\u003EDeadwood \u003C\/b\u003ETV series is very watchable and indy favourite \u003Cb\u003EJohn Hawkes\u003C\/b\u003E is no exception. We were treated to some footage from \u003Cb\u003EJames Cameron\u003C\/b\u003E’s re-mastered \u003Cb\u003ETitanic 3D\u003C\/b\u003E.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cdiv class=\"bookquote\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003ETitanic 3D\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EA boy and girl from differing social backgrounds meet during the ill-fated maiden voyage of RMS Titanic.\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI was struck by three things while watching the footage from \u003Cb\u003ETitanic 3D\u003C\/b\u003E.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E1. Wow! An almost unrecognizable \u003Cb\u003EKate Winslet\u003C\/b\u003E and \u003Cb\u003ELeonardo DiCaprio\u003C\/b\u003E were young when they made \u003Cb\u003ETitanic\u003C\/b\u003E.\u003Cbr \/\u003E2. The footage from \u003Cb\u003ETitanic 3D\u003C\/b\u003E was absolutely phenomenal and I was awe struck along with the rest of the audience while watching the familiar scenes in a whole new way. \u003Cb\u003EJames Cameron\u003C\/b\u003E’s notorious attention to detail very clearly in full effect and \u003Cb\u003ETitanic 3D\u003C\/b\u003E looks absolutely magnificent.\u003Cbr \/\u003E3. \u003Cb\u003EJames Cameron\u003C\/b\u003E, the richest man in the world is going to double, or triple his fortune with \u003Cb\u003ETitanic 3D\u003C\/b\u003E. As everyone and their mother (including me) is going to be in the queue to see \u003Cb\u003ETitanic 3D\u003C\/b\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EInitially when I heard \u003Cb\u003EJames Cameron\u003C\/b\u003E was going to release \u003Cb\u003ETitanic 3D\u003C\/b\u003E I thought it was some kind of error and that someone had mistaken \u003Cb\u003EGhosts of the Abyss\u003C\/b\u003E one of \u003Cb\u003ECameron\u003C\/b\u003E’s underwater 3D documentaries about the Titanic for \u003Cb\u003ETitanic \u003C\/b\u003Ethe film. I couldn’t conceive that \u003Cb\u003ETitanic\u003C\/b\u003E, not only one of the most successful films of all time but considered a classic by many a film that relies mainly on performances and atmosphere rather than the visual aspects. And sure \u003Cb\u003EJames Cameron\u003C\/b\u003E and his team put a lot of effort into making both the sets and CG elements of the film look authentic but I think we would all agree that the performances and way Jack and Rose’s romance rolls out are the heart of \u003Cb\u003ETitanic\u003C\/b\u003E. And what an absolutely marvelous day it was. Like all my Christmases rolled into one. \u003Cb\u003EEmpire\u003C\/b\u003E promised that this year the event formerly known as \u003Cb\u003EMovie-Con\u003C\/b\u003E was going to be \u003Cb\u003EBIG (SCREEN)\u003C\/b\u003E and it was. Taking all the elements I love about film and housing them under one roof.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003E     I was unsure of what to expect of \u003Cb\u003EBIG SCREEN\u003C\/b\u003E, in previous years \u003Cb\u003EMovie-Con\u003C\/b\u003E has been held on the fairly familiar territory of the \u003Cb\u003EBFI\u003C\/b\u003E and I had grown quite familiar with its intimate and fun format. The \u003Cb\u003EEmpire\u003C\/b\u003E team proving to be just as much of a draw with their accessibility and friendliness as the mega stars that they brought along to interact with \u003Cb\u003EMovie-Con\u003C\/b\u003E \/ \u003Cb\u003EBIG SCREEN\u003C\/b\u003E audience.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003E     From what I can gather the above made for some special personal moments and memories for attendees that will stay with them for their rest of their lives. There are so many highlights and everyone’s personal highlights seem to be different, so it would be pointless for me to try distilling them down to a 10 point, slow motion, scored, montage here. Heck I might do that in another post. In fact yes I will do that (in another post).\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003E     When it was announced that \u003Cb\u003EMovie-Con\u003C\/b\u003E was going all \u003Cb\u003EBIG SCREEN\u003C\/b\u003E and heading over to the O2 (the only man made structure visible from space in Greenwich, London) it was a bittersweet moment for me. I felt a little like I did when \u003Cb\u003ELOST \u003C\/b\u003Eor \u003Cb\u003EThe Wonder Years\u003C\/b\u003E ended or when I saw \u003Cb\u003EStar Wars™: Episode I - The Phantom Menace\u003C\/b\u003E. And I slowly realised a part of my second childhood may be slipping away forever. Immediately concerns that my personal \u003Cb\u003EMovie-Con\u003C\/b\u003E experience made with such seeming bespoke care and attention by the \u003Cb\u003EEmpire\u003C\/b\u003E team was to be replaced with a \u003Cb\u003EBIG SCREEN\u003C\/b\u003E soulless corporate version of the event formerly known as \u003Cb\u003EMovie-Con\u003C\/b\u003E.\u003Cbr\u003E\u003Cbr\u003E     Much of this was derived from the fact that \u003Cb\u003EMovie-Con\u003C\/b\u003E was a fairly effortless event for me – I could get from Door to door in about 25 Minutes. And for a £35 entry fee we didn’t mind knowing what was going to happen over the weekend or if there were changes or time frames were completely out of whack.
