Downton Abbey: A New Era All the updates

Ding dong! It's happening! We are 73 days away from seeing the continuing saga of the Crawley family (and their residence) on the big screen, in Simon Curtis' Downton Abbey: A New Era and it's 29th of April UK cinema release date cannot come quick enough.

The timing of Downton Abbey: A New Era's UK cinema release is however timeous for us as - we succumbed to the charm of Downton Abbey relatively late, despite the cultural impact of the show we only started watching the series during the lockdown and sadly only have two more seasons to go before the end but we also have Michael Engler's 2019 Downton Abbey bookmarked for viewing after the show has ended.

Even though I am trying to avoid spoilers, as I still have much to catch up on, the marketing for Downton Abbey: A New Era is ramping up and the first trailer for the film has just dropped (I am relieved to see many of my favourite characters are still in the frame as well as some new friends). Henceforth I'll try to update this page with Downton Abbey: A New Era media as it is released.

The screenplay is written by Downton creator and Academy-Award® winner Julian Fellowes, with Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning Gareth Neame and Emmy Award-winning Liz Trubridge producing with Fellowes. FOCUS FEATURES ANNOUNCES DOWNTON ABBEY 2 IN CINEMAS THIS CHRISTMAS All Original Downton Cast to return for sequel along with new cast members Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, Dominic West and Simon Curtis to Direct LONDON, UK, April 19, 2021 – Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski announced today that Focus has set production with Gareth Neame’s Carnival Films on Downton Abbey 2. The original principal cast will all once again return for the second film which began production last week and is set to release Christmas 2021 on December 22, 2021. In addition to the original cast, Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West will join the cast. Downton creator Academy-Award® winner Julian Fellowes will once again write the film’s screenplay, with Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning Gareth Neame and Emmy Award-winning Liz Trubridge back to produce with Fellowes. BAFTA and Emmy nominated director Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn) will join the filmmaking team to direct the sequel.
