All you have to do I make an 88 second short film and upload it by May 20. Sound easy? Well your creativity will be challenged as the brief takes it’s inspiration from Silent House and your film needs to be a single continuous take filmed in real time. As Silent House is told in real time in one continuous take, just as the lead Sarah sees – and experiences – it.

In essence that means you turn the camera on and then 88 seconds later off, no flashbacks no location jumps, unless of course you apply some creativity and come up with an ingenious way of making it all work, this is a great little exercise to stretch your creativity.

Once you have completed your short film upload it to shootingpeople.org, then send the URL along with your name and contact details to silenthousecompetition@thinkjam.com under the subject line of ‘Shooting People Silent House competition’  – all films will then be judged by the directors of Silent House Chris Kentis and Laura Lau.

The Prize
The  winner gets a one year Cineworld Unlimited card (free film for a year) as well as having your  short film featured on the DVD release of Silent House later this year.

For inspiration check out the Silent House trailer. Silent House is based on the Uruguayan film La Casa Muda and star Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene). In Silent House, Sarah, along with her uncle and father, prepare their long-time family summer home, recently violated by squatters, for sale. But broken windows and cracks in the plaster are the least of their problems when they discover they are not alone and there’s more than just mold concealed behind the walls. Over the course of 88 harrowing minutes, their idyllic isolated retreat is transformed into a site of horror as the family’s past returns to taunt then terrorize them, exposing a hidden and distorted history.
