See the UK Trailer for The Lost City of Z and explore a jungle of film stills - ON OUR RADAR I have waiting for the cinematic adaptation of David Grann's Lost City of Z for what seems like ages now. The tale of explorer Percy Fawcett, a real life Indiana Jones, and his search for the mythical city Z in the Amazon rainforests of Brazil has fascinated me since I was a kid and his legendary quest has seeped into popular culture and spawned many rumours and myth whilst remaining still fairly unknown. Even in a quirky self reference Indiana Jones tried to find Fawcett in Rob MacGregor's 1991 Indiana Jones and the Seven Veils novel.

The Lost City of Z (2016)

Based on David Grann's best-selling book of the same name, The Lost City of Z is the true-life drama which centers on British explorer Col. Percival Fawcett, who disappeared while searching for a mysterious city in the Amazon in the 1920s.

Director:
James Gray

Writers:

James Gray, David Grann

Stars:
Charlie Hunnam, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller

Back in 2009 David Grann's published his account of Lt. Colonel Percival Harrison Fawcett's search for The Lost City of Z and it is well worth a read, in fact along with Erik Larson's 2003 The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America and  Evan Wright & Jon Roberts' 2012 American Desperado: My Life--From Mafia Soldier to Cocaine Cowboy to Secret Government Asset, it has been one of the incredible books where reality has been stranger than fiction that I have longed to see adapted for the big screen. Before your rush to tie up the option, both the other novels have been tied up for ages.

Slowly news of the production team and cast have been released and the news just kept on getting better: The Lost City of Z is in part produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B, directed by James Gray (Little Odessa, The Yards, We Own the Night, Two Lovers, Blood Ties, The Immigrant) - so you can expect something with gravitas. With performances from Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland and Sienna Miller - it has become one of most anticipated films of 2017.

Based on author David Grann’s nonfiction bestseller, THE LOST CITY OF Z tells the incredible true story of British explorer Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam), who journeys into the Amazon at the dawn of the 20th century and discovers evidence of a previously unknown, advanced civilization that may have once inhabited the region. Despite being ridiculed by the scientific establishment who regard indigenous populations as “savages”, the determined Fawcett – supported by his devoted wife (Sienna Miller), son (Tom Holland) and aide de camp (Robert Pattinson) – returns time and again to his beloved jungle in an attempt to prove his case, culminating in his mysterious disappearance in 1925.

A while back a teaser trailer was released, introduced by Tom Holland:
