Resistance
D-Day has failed, Britain is under Nazi occupation. Sarah Lewis, a 26-year-old farmer’s wife, awakes one morning to find that her husband has disappeared along with all the men in the valley. Assuming they have joined the Resistance, the women of this tiny community pull together, taking on the running of the farms, and wait, desperate for news. A German patrol arrives in the valley, the purpose of its mission a mystery. When a severe winter forces the two groups into co-operation, Sarah begins an acquaintance with the patrol’s commanding officer, Albrecht. Cut off from the surrounding war, the lines between collaboration, duty, occupation and survival become blurred.
RESISTANCE features sensational lead performances from British rising star Andrea Riseborough (Brighton Rock, Made In Dagenham) and Tom Wlaschiha (Enemy At The Gates, Valkyrie, Brideshead Revisited), and co-stars Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon, The Damned United). Finn Jones, Roxanne Mckee, James Cosmo, Miltos Yerolemou And Spencer Wilding will be meeting fans and signing autographs on both days of the 19-20 November Memorabilia show, the UK’s biggest and best collectors’ event.

Weekend is the second biggest film opener (screen average) after The Adventures Of Tin Tin: Secret Of The Unicorn.
New venues announced. But the journey wasn’t easy…Andrew Haigh’s (Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, Hannibal Rising) ‘Weekend’, an independent British feature film set in Nottingham about two men finding love over one weekend, has grossed more than £30,000 in its opening weekend from an extremely limited theatrical release, with a per-screen average second only to studio behemoth ‘Tin Tin’.

The low budget film (£120,000) has stolen the hearts of the nation’s film critics. Released in cinemas Friday 4th November, Weekend has so far received rapturous reviews:
Kate Muir from The Times has called ‘Weekend’ one of the most adorable romances I've seen
It is Film of the week, in fact, of most weeks and a genuinely brilliant love story according to Danny Leigh, presenter of BBC Film 2011.
And The Telegraph’s Tim Robey has declared the film to be a romance that is tender, funny and unafraid of the naked truth.
Following its critical and box office success in the US, where it has garnered nearly half a million dollars so far, you would think that the UK cinema release would be a breeze.

However, getting the film in to UK cinemas, in what is a notoriously difficult market dominated by multiplexes and blockbusters, proved a challenge for UK distributor Peccadillo Pictures. And we have been inundated with calls from cinemagoers asking if the film can play in more cinemas closer to where they live:
After contacting two national cinema chains that have a local presence, the only way I will see the best reviewed British film of the week, is by making a 120 mile round trip into Manchester. – Darren Rigby, Blackpool
I find it really disappointing in Brighton, with such a large LGBT community that only one screening of Weekend is being shown. There's been so much buzz about this film. – Christopher Whale, Brighton
Since the day of release, audience demand has clearly had an impact – six new cinema venues have committed to a full run from Friday 11th November – FACT Liverpool, Odeon Brighton, Cameo Edinburgh, Gate Notting Hill, Odeon Printworks and Odeon Blackpool. A full list of venues can be found at the film’s official website, www.weekend-film.com

The buzz is growing. To be a part of it, demand the film be shown in your town on DEMAND IT - http://eventful.com/performers/weekend-/P0-001-000605054-7/demand

Lionsgate UK Teams With Keith Lemon For Its First British Comedy Feature Keith Lemon: The Film. Generator Entertainment Will Co-Produce

London, UK (November 9 2011) – Lionsgate UK is venturing into comedy for the first time to produce a new feature film with “Celebrity Juice's” ever popular host and international ladies’ man Keith Lemon with producing partners Belfast-based Generator Entertainment. Production starts shooting on location in Belfast on November 17, 2011, with funding from Northern Ireland Screen.  Verne Troyer is confirmed to star alongside Keith Lemon.

Keith Lemon: The Film is a comedy about Keith following his dreams of becoming a successful entrepreneur, just like his hero Richard Branson. He comes to London from Leeds, becomes an overnight billionaire then an over day failure before finding the road to redemption.

Written by Leigh Francis, creator of Bo Selecta, Avid Merrion and Keith Lemon’s World Tour, and Paul Angunawela, the film will be directed by Angunawela and produced by Mark Huffam (Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, Game of Thrones, Mamma Mia!, Johnny English), Simon Bosanquet (Life and Death of Peter Sellers, Whole Lotta Sole) and Aidan Elliott for Belfast-based Generator Entertainment.  Zygi Kamasa, CEO of Lionsgate UK will executive produce. Nick Manzi and Emma Berkofsky developed the film in house and will also executive produce for Lionsgate UK. Additional finance comes from London post house Molinare.

The project marks Lemon’s first feature film and the second time Lionsgate UK and Keith have partnered following Lionsgate Home Entertainment’s release last Christmas of “Keith Lemon’s Fit!”,  a comedic DVD parody of the popular fitness video market, which became a huge hit in the UK selling over 100,000 units.

Zygi Kamasa, CEO of Lionsgate UK said: “Keith Lemon is someone that everyone in the UK wants to be or wants to be with. Given his universal appeal and electric popularity with the ladies, making this film will prove to be an absolute rollercoaster of a ride for us, exposing Keith’s natural talent – something he is very used to doing both on and off screen.”

Keith Lemon adds “It's a privilege to have the power of sight, hearing, touching and feeling. But to make a film which I am going to be able to see myself in, hear myself in, but unfortunately not touch or feel myself in (because it's not in 3d) is even more'rer'rer of privilege. Especially since it's based on true life events that have happened in my true life, apart from of course 98.2 per cent of it which has been made up simply for entertainment purposes.”

Simon Bosanquet of Generator is delighted with the project “We are looking forward to welcoming Keith to Belfast to shoot his debut feature film with our talented local crews and artists. He has a huge fan base in the province and will no doubt be the focus of much female attention.”

The project marks Lemon’s first feature film and the second time he has partnered with Lionsgate following Lionsgate Home Entertainment’s release last Christmas of “Keith Lemon’s Fit!”, a comedic DVD parody of the popular fitness video market, a huge hit in the UK selling of 100,000 units.  Keith Lemon first came to prominence as a character on Channel 4’s popular comedy series Bo Selecta and then had his own ITV series “Keith Lemon’s World Tour”. He is currently the host of ITV2’s hit gameshow and ratings sensation Celebrity Juice.  He has also hosted ITV’s Sing If You Can which gained 4.5 million viewers on ITV1. As well as being a regular an agony uncle on ITV’s This Morning his iTunes App has topped the charts with over 300,000 downloads. Orion have published “Keith Lemon: The Rules: 69 Ways To Be Successful” and Lemon will also feature on the Celebrity Juice: Too Juicy for TV DVD from 2entertain.

In addition to Keith Lemon: The Film, Lionsgate UK recently announced they are co-producing the Colin Firth starrer The Railway Man and exec producing Mike Newell’s Great Expectations which started shooting on 10 October. Lionsgate UK’s theatrical slate includes Lasse Hallström’s Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, starring Emily Blunt, Ewan McGregor and Kristin Scott Thomas which Lionsgate co-produced with BBC Films and Kudos Film and Television alongside Ralph Fiennes’ directorial debut Coriolanus and David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method which had Gala presentations at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2011.

Keith Lemon is represented by George Ashton at James Grant; Paul Angunawela is represented by Nick Marston at Curtis Brown. Ray Hughes Management represents Verne Troyer.

Daniel Radcliffe reads an extract from The Woman in Black:

The Woman In Black
The Woman In Black is based on the world famous ghost story by Susan Hill.  The film follows the fate of Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a lawyer who is forced to leave his young son and travel to a remote village to attend to the affairs of the recently deceased owner of Eel Marsh House.
Working alone in the old mansion, Kipps begins to uncover the town’s tragic and tortured secrets and his fears escalate when he discovers that local children have been disappearing under mysterious circumstances.  When those closest to him are threatened, Kipps must find a way to break the cycle of terror.
The Woman In Black also stars Ciaran Hinds (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) and Janet McTeer (Tumbleweeds) and was adapted from Susan Hill’s best-selling novel for the screen by Jane Goldman (Kick Ass) and directed by James Watkins (Eden Lake).
The Woman In Black will be released across the UK and Ireland by Momentum Pictures, an Alliance Films company, on 10th February 2012.

Disney Introduces Appmates Mobile Application Toys – First Toy To Allow Kids To Use Apple Ipad® As Virtual Play Mat
Cars 2 Appmates Let Kids Explore the World of Cars, Perform Missions, and Compete In Action-Packed Races. In an industry first, Disney introduce Disney AppMATesTM Mobile Application Toys, a new toy line that comes to life digitally when used with an Apple iPad by allowing kids to use the tablet’s screen as a virtual play mat.  Developed by Disney, featuring patent-pending technology, the Appmates toy line features miniature Disney•Pixar Cars 2 vehicles with sensors on the base of each toy that are recognised as a unique footprint by an app with no cable or Bluetooth connection required. Simply download the free Cars 2 Appmates app from the iTunes app store, place your favourite Appmates toy character on the screen and play.

Video: Disney Appmates - Demo

We have cracked the technology code in changing the way kids play with their toys,” said Sunny Lauridsen, director of digital toys for DCP. “Kids will always use toys to play out their favourite Disney stories, but Disney Appmates now allows them to include technology which has become a way of life for them through a beautifully rich app.
The magic begins when kids place their vehicle on the iPad and begin to explore the world of Cars.  Available for download in early to mid-October, Cars 2 Appmates app is a free app created by Disney exclusively for use with Appmates toys.  By guiding the Appmates vehicle on the screen, the iPad becomes a virtual play mat where kids can experience the world of Radiator Springs.

“We believe iPad is becoming a critical canvas for the next generation of storytelling, and with Appmates we’re bringing Disney characters to life in a way never previously imagined,” said Bart Decrem, general manager of Disney Mobile.

Cars 2 Appmates features include:

  • Exploration – Drive around the world of Radiator Springs to discover landscapes and hidden secrets by simply placing the Cars toy character on the screen and turning it in any direction.  Drive through mud and up ramps, visit friends at Flo’s V8 Café or check out your Car’s reflection, showing off your latest gear and gadgets.
  • Directed Game Play – Perform missions unique to each character.  Completed missions – like helping bring a tow hook back to Mater – gain hubcaps, the virtual currency.  Collect enough hubcaps to personalise each car with special features like a unique horn sound, customised tire tracks, and cool gear like a rocket launcher or spy vision goggles.
  • Racing – Rev up the action by racing against World Grand Prix opponents and your Radiator Springs friends.  Five racetracks are available at launch. Race around Willy’s Butte, jump off Carburetor Mesa and roar through downtown Radiator Springs earning hubcaps in day or night races.

Each toy unlocks different features and content within the app specific to the character, allowing kids to come back over and over to enjoy an imaginative, open-ended play experience using the Appmates toys.  Fans can download and test the app by simply using their fingers to drive a virtual car through the world, but the play experience is optimised to come to life with the Appmates toy vehicles.

They will be available from Apple Store, Apple Store online, selected Disney Stores and DisneyStore.co.uk as vehicle two-packs featuring characters including Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater, Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell, and a vehicle single pack with Lightning McQueen.  Two additional characters — Francesco Bernoulli and Shu Todoroki — will be available through Apple Store and Apple Store online.

Created in collaboration with Spin Master, Disney Appmates toys launch in the UK from 3rd October.
