Watch Wim Wenders (& Anthony Dod Mantle's) Simple Life Advert For Stella Artois & discuss his craft for the Stella Artois Connoisseurs Series - it's extraordinary
I must confess I have seen the whimsical Très Simple Life Advert For Stella Artois Cidre a couple of times and fleetingly thought that it was really well made. Well due to a heads up from the Stella Artois Connoisseurs Series I discovered today that the advert was actually made by Legendary Director Wim Wenders who previously directed the Names, She is a Thing Beauty advert for Stella Artois. And was shot by none other than Cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle (In the Heart of the Sea, Rush, Trance, Dredd, Antichrist, Slumdog Millionaire and the list goes on ....). What a pairing, is there a feature in their future? One can only hope. |

I can now appreciate how the effort and craftsmanship that has gone into making the Très Simple Life advert is supposed to parallel the skill and dedication that goes into making each Stella Artois Cidre, this is also more playfully and overtly alluded to in the advert itself as well the simple sophistication of the Cidre drinker.
Still at early stages the Stella Artois Connoisseurs Series is connects us with world-class craftsman as they discuss their passion and craft. So far they have had chats with; Wim Wenders, Shane Meadows and Captain of the British Polo team Jamie Morrison.
I have to say hearing Wim Wenders talk about his approach to filmmaking and distilling his craft to moments and ritual is extraordinary.
