Gráinne Humphreys, Festival Director, commented: “It’s a huge honour to be able to be part of a team that brings such a breadth of important, challenging and entertaining Irish and international cinema to audiences at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival every year.  We’re particularly proud to be opening and closing the festival this year with remarkable Irish films, both of which demonstrate the Irish industry’s ability to produce quality films that can be positioned on a world stage.  The selection of films has been very carefully considered and chosen to ensure that there is very much something for all audiences.  I’m really looking forward to hearing feedback from audiences on the films they loved, and the guests they loved meeting during our annual presentation of Dublin as the city of film in February.  A special word of thanks goes to our dedicated festival volunteers, over 180 of whom will help us keep the event running smoothly.”

A must-attend festival event and one of the hottest tickets every year is the Jameson Cult Film Club screening.  This year Jaws is the chosen feature and the previously announced guest Richard Dreyfuss will take part in a public interview following the screening.  Information on how to apply for tickets can be found at www.jamesoncultfilmclub.ie.

Anna Malmhake, Chairman & CEO Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard added: “We at Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard are very proud to be sponsors of this prestigious event, which contributes to showcasing Dublin as a cultural hot spot around the world. It moulds together the charming aspects of our hometown, Dublin – the heritage, the story telling, the creativity and the sociability.  Film as an art form has been close to the heart of the Jameson brand for a very long time. Jameson is involved with some of the most dynamic film festivals around the world.  As part of this year’s Festival, we are delighted that Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss will be joining us for a special Q&A session at the Jameson Cult Film Club screening of Jaws. It has proved to be a hugely popular event since its launch and cements Jameson’s association with film, delivering an unforgettable screening experience for all those who attend.”

Oscar® nominated Hollywood actor Stanley Tucci to visit Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2014
Acclaimed actor to attend a public interview and will also receive prestigious Volta Award

Oscar® nominated actor Stanley Tucci will visit Dublin to attend a public interview and will also be honoured with a Volta Award at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2014.  The public interview will take place at 2pm on Saturday February 15th in Light House Cinema.  Tickets go on sale on Friday February 7th priced €7 from www.jdiff.com or (01) 6877974.  Tucci will be presented with his Volta Award following the public interview.

Tucci has a long and distinguished career in cinema, theatre and television, resulting in him being one of the most recognisable actors working on screen today having appeared in more than 50 feature films.  He earned an Academy Award® nomination, along with Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG and Broadcast Film Critics nominations for his chilling performance in The Lovely Bones in 2008.  Some of his most memorable performances came in a variety of films including The Devil Wears Prada; The Hunger Games; Julie & Julia and Road to Perdition.

Big Night, his first effort as co-director, co-screenwriter and actor on the same film, earned him numerous accolades, including the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival, a recognition of Excellence by the National Board of Review, an Independent Spirit Award, The Critics Prize at the 1996 Deauville Film Festival and honours from the New York Film Critics and the Boston Society of Film Critics.  He also directed and starred in the hypnotic Blind Date and the slapstick comedy The Impostors.

His extensive television work has included iconic shows such as “ER”; “30 Rock” and “Monk”.  No stranger to the theatre, Tucci has appeared in numerous plays, including “Frankie & Johnny in the Claire de Lune” for which he received a Tony award nomination; “Execution of Hope”; “The Iceman Cometh”; “Brighton Beach Memoirs” and “The Misanthrope”.  In 2008 he earned a 2008 Emmy Award nomination for his guest role as Dr. Moretti on “ER” and, in 2007, his performance on “Monk” received critical attention as well as an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

Multi-hyphenate Tucci released his cookbook, The Tucci Cookbook, in October of 2012, where it reached the New York Time Best Sellers List.  He serves on the Board of Directors of The Food Bank for New York City and has served as a Creative Advisor at the Sundance Institute Screenwriters and Directors Labs.

The announcement of yet another high-profile guest continues the extraordinary success the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival has had in securing the biggest names in international cinema talent to attend the festival each year.  Tucci will attend the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival as a special guest and will be honoured with a Volta Award, an award created by the festival to celebrate individuals who have made a significant contribution to the world of film. The awards are named after the Volta Picture Theatre, Ireland’s first dedicated cinema, established by James Joyce.

The Jameson Dublin International Film Festival runs at venues throughout Dublin from February 13th – 23rd 2014. The jam-packed lineup for the full festival programme includes over 130 films and themed strands, along with a host of special guests and special events.

Some of the fastest selling films this year include the inspirational No Limbs No Limits, the story of Irish teenager Joanne O’Riordan’s brave approach to facing her challenges – she is one of a handful of people in the world born with no arms and no legs as a result of a rare syndrome.  Also popular is the rare opportunity to see the silent film classic, Harold Lloyd’s Safety Last!, on the big screen with an introduction by his granddaughter Suzanne Lloyd and live musical accompaniment from the acclaimed Neil Brand.  Another must-see title proving popular is Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay, a fascinating portrait of one of the most respected professional magicians in the world, Ricky Jay.  Tickets for all of these films can be booked on www.jdiff.com.

The funders and sponsors of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival include: Jameson Irish Whiskey, The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, Bord Scannán na hÉireann / the Irish Film Board, American Airlines, Toyota, Cineworld, The Merrion Hotel, The Irish Times, RTÉ, Windmill Lane, Wells Cargo, Entertainment.ie, Film Base and The Church.
