FILMPHONICS presents King Kong and Live Score Screening - UPCOMING CLASSIC SCREENING

As I have been rammer jammer the last couple of months I haven't really had a chance to update as much as I would like and I have missed a ton of stuff including what the Hackney Attic has been up to at the Hackney Picturehouse. But when an alert about their latest exciting screening to kick off their monthly live score and audio visual night up in the Hackney Attic landed in my inbox I had to get an APB up.

This February to celebrate the incredible relationship between live music and the moving image. Hackney Attic and FILMPHONICS will be hosting a screening of the classic 1933 (and original version) of King Kong with a live re-score by Orchestra Elastique.

"Orchestra Elastique are dedicated to testing the possibilities of improvised music, live scoring, and the intersections these sonic landscapes create in response to film and moving image. For a one-off night we intend to bring these sonic re-imaginings into an all-encompassing experience of music and cinema in the live scoring of King Kong. The nature of Orchestra Elastique is to create an original experience through improvisation. In this live exploration we take from a broad palette of instruments, styles and traditions of music and sound making. The music that we create evolves in unexpected formations and our aim as a band is to continuously challenge and re-invent ourselves and our music.


The range of music and instruments we use in performances means we create a sound that touches on genres such as modern electronic & classical composition, kraut-rock, free jazz, minimal, and various folkloric and tribal traditions.

Orchestra Elastique has a proven track record of performing in and curating nights of improvised music in a host of venues in London and around the world. We have curated and performed events at Café Oto, ICA, Camden Arts Centre, Shunt Vaults and venues in Berlin, Istanbul, Romania and France. In collaboration with Lost Picture Show we have performed live improvised scores to films at Open City Documentary Film Festival, Land of Kings and Shambala Festival scoring films such as Trip to the Moon, Fantastic Planet and At Land."
