Blood Simple
A remake of Joel and Ethan Coen’s 1984 debut feature, “Blood Simple”, award winning director Zhang Yimou (House Of Flying Daggers; Hero; Raise The Red Lantern)’s Blood Simple (aka “A Simple Noodle Story” and “A Woman, A Gun And A Noodle Shop”) transposes the story from small town Texas during the 1980s to the Gansu province of feudal era China and transforms the Coens’ cult neo-noir crime movie into a period-set piece that begins as a slapstick farce before evolving into a riveting crime thriller.
The owner of a noodle shop in a small desert town, Wang is a miserable, ill-tempered, money-grabbing boss not averse to short-changing his workers whenever the opportunity arises. His dark moods and abusiveness have driven his wife into an illicit affair with Li, one of his employees, and provoked her into buying a gun believing that only Wang’s death can bring her the happiness she desires.

Aware of his wife’s infidelity and her plans to kill him off, Wang bribes a local patrol officer, Zhang, into murdering the two lovers while providing him with an alibi. But what looks like a perfect plan to Wang soon spirals out of control thanks to an unexpected double-cross that has all the players silently plotting against each other in twist-filled scenario driven by avarice, revenge and murder.

Keeping The British End Up
Keeping The British End Up traces the history of the British sex film from its coy beginnings in Nudist Paradise through to its boom years with the Confessions series, and its demise in the early eighties.
Written by acclaimed journalist and broadcaster, Simon Sheridan, with a foreword by the actress Sue Longhurt and afterword by Johnny Vegas, this new edition includes an expanded filmography and previously unpublished interview material and stills.
The British tradition of ‘saucy postcard’ humour is perhaps best exemplified by the long running Carry On movies. But there is a forgotten cinema of saucier ‘X’ certificate films.
Joan Collins and Joanna Lumley were among those who appeared in such films. Most famously, Robin Askwith, Fiona Richmond and Mary Millington became seventies superstars in movies that put boobs on screen and bums on seats.

Director: Dwight H. Little
Author: Johnny Vegas & Simon Sheridan

The Damnation of Faust - Live Performance
ENO stages a new production of Berlioz's The Damnation of Faust directed by actor, screenwriter and film-maker Terry Gilliam. This large scale company work ranges from intimacy to grandeur with a powerful score that showcases the ENO Chorus and Orchestra, conducted by ENO Music Director Edward Gardner, and featuring a stellar cast led by Christine Rice.

Terry Gilliam's vivid imagination and ability to bring his often surreal vision of the world to life is a trademark of his work. His iconic animation for Monty Python has led to an esteemed career in Hollywood, his films often demonstrating escape from society through eye-popping magical and surreal interpretations of reality - from Time Bandits and Brazil through to The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Berlioz wrote The Damnation of Faust with clear directions of setting and action to guide the performers' imaginations, but never expected the directions to be physically realised. Berlioz was a maverick figure who, despite his veneration for composers such as Gluck and Beethoven, pushed the boundaries of the art form. The Damnation of Faust is the perfect vehicle for Terry Gilliam's rich imagination.

Tenebrae - Home Release
Generally regarded as one of Italian horror maestro Dario Argento's finest films, the terrifying Tenebrae marked the director's return to the "giallo" (mystery-thriller) genre in which he first made his name, after making two supernatural themed films, “Suspiria” (1977) and “Inferno” (1980). Banned on video in the UK until 1999, when it was released in a cut form, the film was finally passed uncut and uncensored in 2002. Now, this definitive version of Tenebrae comes to DVD and for the first time in the UK, Blu-ray, boasting a brand new HD restoration of the film and a host of extra features.

Shortly after American mystery-thriller novelist Peter Neal arrives in Rome to promote his new book (the “Tenebrae” of the title) an attractive young woman is murdered by a razor-wielding maniac who stuffs pages of Neal’s latest novel into the mouth of his victim before slashing her throat. So begins a bizarre series of horrific murders, the details of which strangely resemble the fictional murders in Neal's book. Baffled by the killings, the local police believe the author may hold the key to solving the case and turn to him for help. Circumstances change, however, when Neal himself begins to receive death threats from the killer.

Based on the controversial and best-selling autobiographical novel by Ray Kluun, director Reinout Oerleman’s debut feature Love Life is “a passionately brave film about loving and living” (BestForFilm.com), produced by Oscar winning producer Hans de Weers (Antonia’s Line) and starring Carice van Houten (Black Death; Repo Men; Valkyrie; Black Book), Barry Atsma (Loft; The Storm) and Anna Drijver (Loft). Carmen’s struggle to deal with her situation has an equally damaging effect on Stijn, who takes solace from the pains of caring for a seriously ill wife in the arms of a free-spirited artist, Rose (Drijver). Cowboys & Aliens
Blockbuster filmmaker Jon Favreau directs Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in an event film for summer 2011 that crosses the classic Western with the alien-invasion movie in a blazingly original way: Cowboys & Aliens. Joined by an arsenal of top moviemakers—Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci—he brings an all-new action thriller that will take audiences into the Old West, where a lone cowboy leads an uprising against a terror from beyond our world.
1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his “perfect” life quickly unravels. Worse, in today’s single world, Cal, who hasn’t dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth.

Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protégé to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). In an effort to help Cal get over his wife and start living his life, Jacob opens Cal’s eyes to the many options before him: flirty women, manly drinks and a sense of style that can’t be found at Supercuts or The Gap.

Cal and Emily aren’t the only ones looking for love in what might be all the wrong places: Cal’s 13-year-old son, Robbie, is crazy about his 17-year-old babysitter, Jessica, who harbors a crush on Cal. And despite Cal’s makeover and his many new conquests, the one thing that can’t be made over is his heart, which seems to keep leading him back to where he began.
