Jurassic World Dominion installation in London’s Trafalgar Square
This June the 10th June, the final Jurassic Park film, Jurassic World Dominion, concludes the Jurassic era with a bang as two generations unite for the first time. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Oscar®-winner Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe.
To celebrate the arrival of Jurassic World Dominion fans are invited via film technology to get up close to a life-size GIGANOTOSAURUS (the biggest carnivore the world has ever seen). Why do they always go bigger? When Jurassic World Dominion descends on Trafalgar Square, London from Wednesday 25th May to Sunday 29th May.
This flew in a little under the radar. If you have been anticipating the return of Wes Anderson with his 10th film The French Dispatch, the wait is almost over as it will be in cinemas from this Friday, 22 October. It is sure to be gorgeous, charming, quirky, very entertaining and everything that cinema seemingly no longer wants to be.
If you are in or near London, much like the 2018 Isle of Dogs pop up exhibition, you can visit sets and much more from the film at the WES ANDERSON: THE FRENCH DISPATCH Exhibition right now at 180 The Strand.
Throughout Saturday night 18th September, in honour of Batman Day 2021, the iconic Bat-Signal lit up the skies in
London, Liverpool and Glasgow to celebrate The Dark Knight on Batman Day
2021.
The iconic Bat-Signal shone a light on imposing buildings across the UK
on Saturday. The participating cities - London, Liverpool, and Glasgow - had
been revealed in advance, but the exact locations were shrouded in mystery. The
exact locations were teased on Instagram and Facebook by
DC GB Facebook
and
DCUKComics
on the 18th to give Bat-Signal seekers a head start.
Saturday 18th September, 8 - 8.30pm - Batman Day 2021 Bat-Signal on Odeon Luxe
Leicester, London:
Batman Day 2021 Bat-Signal Odeon Luxe Leicester, London
If all goes to plan we are less than half a year away from seeing Matt Reeves
interpretation of The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson on screens.
Fortunately we have a stop gap in the form of Batman Day this Saturday 18th
September.
Similar to the event that took place 2 years ago (and hopefully will take
place annually) the iconic Bat Signal will be shone into the night sky, or at
least 5 buildings at secret locations in London, Liverpool and Glasgow to alert Batman that his
presence is required. As well as signal an Easter Egg hunt with Batman related prizes.
The secret locations have been chosen for their Batman connections. Notably, Glasgow, Liverpool and London have all been used as prominent filming locations for much anticipated The Batman, which will be released in 2022. Glasgow was used as a filming location for The Flash - also set for a 2022 release - which sees Michael Keaton reprise his role as the Defender of Gotham.
AA little while back I was incredibly fortunate to go along to the unveiling of the Design Museum’s 2019 exhibition programme, on its own this was a thing of wonder but this was where the Design Museum was to announce that the Stanley Kubrick Exhibition was finally coming to London. This is kind of a huge deal for film fans.
Since 2004 a Stanley Kubrick Exhibition has been touring the globe, engaging Kubrick aficionados, film lovers and film makers from Germany, Australia, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, France, Amsterdam, USA, Brazil, Poland, Canada, Mexico, Korea and Denmark. (Yes, I have been tracking it)
But, now for the first time ever the exhibition - will be on public display here in Kubrick's adopted home - the UK at the Design Museum, next year.
Additionally this was a rare opportunity to hear first hand from people that knew Stanley Kubrick and worked with him, as well as discuss details of the upcoming Stanley Kubrick: The Exhibition.
The announcement will include an exclusive panel discussion, featuring long-time Stanley Kubrick collaborator Jan Harlan in conversation with Alan Yentob from the BBC, Deyan Sudjic Director of the Design Museum and Stuart Brown Head of Programme and Acquisitions at the BFI

“THE JUSTICE LEAGUE EXPERIENCE,” A CELEBRATION OF THE ORIGINAL SUPER HERO
TEAM AND ITS FIRST BIG-SCREEN ADVENTURE, JUSTICE LEAGUE, TO OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
ON 9 NOVEMBER
I'm pretty sure I don't need to tell you what The Game of Thrones is - the immensely addictive, engaging, shocking, sexy, twisting, tragic, bloody, exciting and uplifting TV adaptation of novelist and screenwriter George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones (part of his A Song of Fire and Ice series) has become a worldwide phenomenon and HBO's most watched series ever.
The eagerly anticipated Season 7 of Game of Thrones arrives on 16 July (10 days from now) and we have just received this very exciting news. To support GOT Season 7 The Game of Thrones Touring Exhibition is coming to Europe, more specifically to London and it looks very immersive - hopefully we'll get to sit on the Iron Throne but it is still a little while before the tour kicks off.
I have only recently become familiar with British illustrator Brian Sanders' incredible body of outstanding work. It was actually through his artwork featured in Taschen's spellbinding book The Making of Stanley Kubrick’s '2001: A Space Odyssey' that I first became aware of Sanders.
Stanley Kubrick banned photographers from the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey and wasn't keen on visitors - but he invited Brian Sanders onto the set to capture the making of 2001 through his art, anyway he wished. Quite a commendation of the man's talent.
His name came up again whilst on a project in which I delved into the Science Fiction and Fantasy artists and illustrators of Great Britain, many of them sadly forgotten despite their incredible conceptual abilities and their skill to help us visualise fantastic imagery.
Whenever I pop by Taschen's London store I take a moment to admire Sanders' 2001 pieces on display in their Downstairs Gallery, along with many other gorgeous pieces and books.
Sanders was most recently responsible for that great piece of Mad Men promo art, that has stuck in my mind. He is a truly incredible talent so I'm quite chuffed that Brian Sanders and his work will be featured (for the first time) in an exhibition running from May through to July, here in London at the Lever Gallery and some outstanding pieces of his work can be viewed first hand.
To celebrate the upcoming release of the new Tom Hardy and Tom Hardy starrer Legend into UK cinemas on 9 September. StudioCanal are bringing an exciting and iconic LEGEND OF THE EAST END Exhibition to the heart of the East End 28th August - 11th September 2015.
We have been quietly anticipating director Brian Helgeland's tale of the notorious 60s London crime lords - The Kray twins for awhile now. Helgeland has been building up a varied and impressive portfolio of work including being involved in the writing or adaptation of; Paul Greengrass' Green Zone, Tony Scott's Man on Fire, Richard Donner's Conspiracy Theory, Clint Eastwood's Mystic River & Curtis Hanson's superbe 50s crime thriller L.A. Confidential. as well as directing corkers like; A Knight's Tale and the Mel Gibson remake of John Boorman's phenomenal Point Blank - Payback.
To be fair I'm not a particular fan of straight up 50/60s British crime thrillers they always seem to unsuccessfully offset downbeat kitchen sink realism with tinsel glamour. There are of course notable exceptions, one of them being Paul McGuigan's much underrated Gangster No. 1. Yet despite being a peak in modern art, music, fashion and culture with Britain bouncing back after World War II the swinging sixties struggles to be framed as an attractive period in film. But Helgeland's work on Payback and L.A. Confidential are more than enough to have me very interested in seeing what he does with 60s London.
They were the best years of our lives. They called them the swinging sixties. The Beatles and the Rolling Stones were rulers of pop music, Carnaby Street ruled the fashion world, and me and my brother ruled London.” - Ronnie Kray, in his autobiographical book, My Story
It looks like Brian Helgeland is already bringing his A game as he has managed to assemble an incredibly talented, and very strong, craft oriented cast for Legend. Which includes; Emily Browning, Paul Bettany, Taron Egerton, Chazz Palminteri, Christopher Eccleston and the legend that is Mr. David Thewlis - which will no doubt be a key strength of the film, particularly with performers having to bounce off Tom Hardy in what may be a career re-defining performance for him, in the dual roles of Ronnie and Reggie Kray.
In a quirk Legend pulls former Gangster No. 1 co-stars David Thewlis and Paul Bettany back into the 60s London underworld.
In the 1960s, they were widely seen as prosperous and charming celebrity nightclub owners and were part of the Swinging London scene. A large part of their fame was due to their non-criminal activities as popular figures on the celebrity circuit, being photographed by David Bailey* on more than one occasion; and socialising with lords, MPs, socialites and show business characters including actors George Raft, Judy Garland, Diana Dors, Barbara Windsor and singer Frank Sinatra. - From Wikepedia
* Aneurin Barnard will be playing a young David Bailey before he became the master photographer and Legend we now know. Which brings me to - Legend will be in UK cinemas from the 9th September in the meantime StudioCanal's The LEGEND OF THE EAST END Exhibition will brings the Kray Legend back to life with a rare look into the lives of the notorious East End gangsters - Ronald "Ronnie" Kray and Reginald "Reggie" Kray aka The Kray Twins, a look behind the scenes of the making of the new Legend film, an amazing opportunity to view - iconic East End photography from Steven Berkoff, Duffy & Don McCullin as well as a FIRST LOOK at Jocelyn Bain Hogg's The Firm- a photographic retrospective documenting the British organized crime world.
Legend
Legend tells the story of two twins, Reggie and Ronald Kray and how they became two of the most notorious gangsters in history.
Director: Brian Helgeland Writer: Brian Helgeland, John Pearson Stars: Tom Hardy, Tom Hardy, Emily Browning, Taron Egerton, Paul Bettany, Aneurin Barnard, David Thewlis, Christopher Eccleston, Chazz Palminteri
For me Captain America: Winter Soldier was by far the most intelligent and relevant Marvel film we have seen so far and proves that Marvel can do subtext as well as be highly entertaining. Winter Soldier is not only a throwback to the Cold War but it also reminds us that the shades of grey that have always pervaded politics and war still exist in this modern age of enlightenment.
Did I mention the many subtle hints and references to Star Wars yet? Like the sounds the ships and weapons make, the aerial battles, the scene where a one armed youth fights his father figure in the depth of a large ship and lets' not forget Nick Fury's entrance - all that was missing was the Imperial March theme tune. Worth a re-watch to see if you spot more or even disagree.
To celebrate the home release of Captain America: Winter Soldier on Marvel are putting on a free CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER PRESENTS THE MARVEL EXHIBITION in Shoreditch and visitors will be able to see artwork featuring the " from artists inspired by Marvel as well as other select items from the Universe. The exhibit will also display for the first time MONDO/MARVEL art in the UK." Sounds pretty exciting. Anyway below are all the details for the exhibition.

If you haven't been to what must surely be one of the greatest film based tours in the world (Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter ) you know have an added reason as - This summer the iconic Hogwarts bridge from the Harry Potter film series will be opened up for the public to cross for the very first time. From Friday 31 August 2012 visitors to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter will be able to walk over the actual bridge that cast members used whilst making one of the best loved film series of all time.
In this the 50th year of James Bond we are certainly are being spoilt with a number of once off and rare events celebrating 50 years of James Bond. I got the heads up about this rather unique and interesting series of conventions being held right in the heart of London City by London Film Memorabilia Conventions a while back – but haven’t really had the time to look into them properly or mention them. Over the long weekend I had a chance to go through my voice mails and catch on some emails and was reminded of what looks to be a rather spectacular set of conventions for Bondologists James Bond and Hammer fans.
Every Bond fan has a favourite Bond film, possibly even a favourite Bond film from each of the Bonds and Goldfinger may not be my favourite but it will always hold a special place in my heart as it was the first James Bond film I ever saw in glorious 16mm Technicolor so I'll be at -
ON SATURDAY 22 SEPTEMBER THE LONDON FILM MEMORABILIA CONVENTION ARE HOLDING A SPECIAL GOLDFINGER DAY!!! CELEBRATING ALL THINGS GOLDFINGER.
A retrospective celebration of the quintessential James Bond film! GOLDFINGER! With members of the Goldfinger cast and crew, reuniting for a one day and one-off unique event!
As part of the ongoing celebration of James Bond's 50th year on screen. The Barbican marks the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise, from 1962's Dr No to this year's Skyfall, with a unique exhibition showcasing the inside story of the design and style of the world's most influential and iconic movie brand.
In collaboration with EON Productions and with unprecedented access to their archives, Designing 007 will be a multi-sensory experience, immersing audiences in the creation and development of Bond style over its auspicious 50 year history.
No other film series has as broad and massive fan appeal as Ian Fleming's James Bond. Spanning 50 years Ian Fleming's James Bond is just as popular now, as when MI6 top man was unleashed onto an unsuspecting public.
The allure of James Bond, much like Goldfinger turns everything he touches into instant objects of desire and no where is this more aptly demonstrated as by the allure of the the cars and vehicles of James Bond. I have actively pursued viewing these vehicles but the The National Motor Museum in Beaulieu has just made this a lot easier with their Bond In Motion James Bond Vehicle Exhibition which will be the largest collection of James Bond vehicles the world has ever seen with 50 vehicles over 50 years of James Bond.
This morning my inbox has been full of the good stuff but non as awesome as the teasing hi rez photo I received of Little Nellie safely unpacked and on display at The London Film Museum.
If you are a regular reader you will know that a little while ago I was fortunate enough to pop into the London Film Museum (LFM) very briefly. This has been my third visit and I'm almost embarrassed to confess that every time I'm there the little maturity I still have left melts and I revert to a kid who has just found the golden ticket and gets to visit Willie Wonka's chocolate factory.
The exhibitions and displays change constantly, unfortunately I haven't had time to edit and upload the pics from my last visit but I was lucky enough to see a Dinosaur size animatronic model of Rexy (the Tyrannosaurus Rex from Night at the Museum 2), a display of costumes from John Boorman's classic Sword & Sorcery epic Excalibur including the armour suits from all the main characters, the actual face mask used by an ape in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey as well as explore some of the areas of the London Film Museum used as locations in films. The foyer of the entrance furthest away from the river has been used in Mission Impossible as the Foyer for the Langley CIA headquarters, where Ethan Hunt breaks into to steal the NOC list and more recently as the Foyer for the villainous Frank D'Amico in the build up to the finale of Kick-Ass. But more about all of that in an upcoming post.
Little Nellie as seen in the promotional poster above for You Only Live Twice is the autogyro that Bond uses to great effect in You Only Live Twice .
Behold Little Nellie in all her glory
Little Nellie can be transported in four large suitcases and then assembled into a formidable aircraft. She is equipped with two fixed machine guns (synchronised to a range of 100 yards), smoke emitters, air-to-air missiles, a flame thrower (with a range of 80 yards) and aerial mines.
Little Nellie will be viewable as part of the display for Fan Fest a Bond extravaganza weekend being held over the 24 & 25th April at the London Film Museum. For more info head over to http://www.fanfestival.co.uk/
