Win Looper Tickets Stella ArtoisWhy should you want tickets to an early Stella Artois screening of Looper? Well there are many reasons - but the two that spring to mind foremost are that Looper is a wildly entertaining film and the best sci-fi film I have seen this year. My review or rather some thoughts of Looper can be found here! And if you are a sci-fi fan I think you’ll love Looper as much as I did and you'll want to see it as soon as possible.

Secondly Stella Artois knows how to throw a screening. I went along to the Stella Artois Premiere for LCD Soundsystem’s Shut Up and Play the Hits and had an unforgettable evening, you can expect a write up soon but in the meantime you can see some photos from the evening over here. If the Hackney Picturehouse rigs up the same sound system as before - you are in for a real treat as Looper's sound and visuals explode into your consciousness.

Well it looks like Stella Artois are going to do it all again as they have teamed up with Little White Lies and will be presenting a preview screening of Looper this Thursday 27 September at Hackney Picturehouse before its release on Friday 28 September. And Stella Artois are giving film fans the chance to win tickets to the UK preview of Looper, a futuristic action thriller set in 2044 which follows a time travelling assassin who eliminates targets sent back in time by a criminal organisation. The only rule is that you do not let your target escape – even if that target is you. Stella Artois has partnered with Picturehouse Cinemas and leading film magazine Little White Lies to host this special preview.

I have seen Looper and loved it and if you like science fiction and decent films I think you’ll love it too. I should mention this does come with a caveat though, as I say in my review of Looper avoid all media about it, if you haven’t this little gem may hold fewer surprises than it should for you. Also I have seen things written about Looper like “Looper is this year's Matrix Sci-Fi as cool as Drive” and “Looper is the greatest science Fiction of this decade [or similar]” – and Looper may well be all those things but much of my enjoyment of the film came from not expecting much and then been blown away by Rian Johnson's Looper in slow motion (for added effect), but I think as good as early buzz is for a film it also sets unrealistic expectations – go in expecting nothing and you will be rewarded with a great performances supporting a ingenious tale of two men going toe to toe.

In 2072, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent 30 years into the past, where a hired gun awaits. Someone like Joe, who one day learns the mob wants to 'close the loop' by transporting back Joe's future self. Looper follows Joseph Simmons, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, working as a “Looper” ('assassin') in the illegal time travel business whose job is to travel 30 years into the past to get rid of his targets. In a gripping twist, Simmons recognises one target as a future version of himself, played by Bruce Willis, who escapes before he is killed. Joseph then triggers a manhunt by his mafia employers, for failure to complete his mission.  Emily Blunt joins the star-studded cast for this futuristic action thriller.

The rules are put to the test when Joe is called upon to “close his loop” and assassinate his future self (Bruce Willis). In failing to pull the trigger, so begins a desperate race against the clock as Joe begins to unravel his own future and older Joe’s past.

The exclusive event will take place at the Hackney Picturehouse on Thursday 27th September from 8.30pm, offering the chance to see the film before the official release on Friday 28th September.

The preview screening will be the third instalment in a series of stand-out film events hosted by Stella Artois this year, in partnership with Picturehouse Cinemas. The scheme kicked off with a UK preview of Bart Layton’s highly anticipated real-life thriller ‘The Imposter’, which received rave reviews at Sundance, SXSW and SilverDocs Film Festivals as well as winning the Grand Jury Award at Miami International Film Festival. The second instalment featured exclusive screenings of ‘Shut Up and Play the Hits’, a film that follows LCD Soundsystem’s frontman, James Murphy, through his final showdown gig at Madison Square Gardens. The film has already received positive reviews with Total Film giving it a five-star (outstanding) review.
