woodkid run boy runEvery now and then we come across a stunning piece of visual work, on rare occasions those visuals are matched with a sound that compliments what we see and French Photographer / Director Yoann Lemoine's video for Run Boy Run performed by his musical alter ego Woodkid is one of those videos.

He taps into childhood dreamlike like elements to add to the narration of Run Boy Run's story. If you are wondering why you haven't heard of Yoann Lemoine you may actually, already be familiar with his work as he created both the Blue Jeans & Born To Die videos for Lana Del Rey, as well as videos for Yelle, Moby, Katy Perry, Drake & Rihanna amongst other. As well as his visually arresting video for his own Woodkid - Iron video featuring Agyness Deyn.

Yoann Lemoine is an award winning visual artist and Director who has worked with H5, Luc Besson and Sofia Coppola before [if the legend is true] been given a banjo by guitarist Richie Havens during a video shoot and from that moment Woodkid was born.

In an interview with 1.4 Lemoine talks about his inspiration for the Run Boy Run video and whether the music influences the visuals or vice verse:.

It’s a lot about having visions first. As a director I need to see images, ghosts. It’s like memories or colors, textures sometimes, a sense of light. I make it come to life by gathering images, sounds, it comes from a very blurry and abstract starting point and then I elevate my visions, I sculpt them by gathering more images or more sounds, and I try to reach a momentum where all these references together make perfect sense to me.
I try to find links between images, sounds and emotions. I call it translations. What chord sequence would perfectly represent nostalgia, or a sense of revival for example? Which sound texture would be marble, or wood? Which sound would be a very bright light?

Stylistically the video for Run Boy Run seems to be very much in theme with his first Woodkid video - Iron which you can see below and  Run Boy Run seems to end leaving room for a further part of the story to be told...

Woodkid - Run Boy Run Lyrics
Run boy run! This world is not made for you
Run boy run! They’re trying to catch you
Run boy run! Running is a victory
Run boy run! Beauty lays behind the hills

Run boy run! The sun will be guiding you
Run boy run! They’re dying to stop you
Run boy run! This race is a prophecy
Run boy run! Break out from society

Tomorrow is another day
And you won’t have to hide away
You’ll be a man, boy!
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!

Run boy run! This ride is a journey to
Run boy run! The secret inside of you
Run boy run! This race is a prophecy
Run boy run! And disappear in the trees

Tomorrow is another day
And you won’t have to hide away
You’ll be a man, boy!
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!

Tomorrow is another day
And when the night fades away
You’ll be a man, boy!
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!
