See Matteo Garrone's Short film Man Extreme - Dvels ( Duels ) for Bulgari starring Eric Bana

Matteo Garrone is a talented Italian photographer and film director, a  leading light in the modern revival of Italian Cinema. He is  possibly most well known for his gritty crime drama film Gomorrah. 

Watching Man Extreme - Dvels or Duels his short film to support the launch of Bulgari's new fragrance Bulgari Man Extreme it is easy to identify his trademark style - black & white cinematography, well dressed men - in this case Eric Bana, grand shots of inherently Italian architecture or landscapes combined with actors almost intruding in them.

All very much in line with the visuals we have come to accept as classic Italian. So it is easy to see why a classic Italian brand like Bulgari would like to collaborated with Garrone and his striking visual style.

Shot to the backdrop of gorgeous grand Italian architecture - a portico of travertine columns at the Museum of Roman Culture in Rome, showing a lone man facing off against some of nature's scariest beasts from Italian mythology a snake (the seduction), an eagle (the wit) and a lion (the courage) to a very Ennio Morricone influenced track unsurprisingly called Theme of Rome by Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi.

Garrone has said that Man Extreme - Duels is -

“Western inspired, it is a duel ... strong feelings of ambush looms throughout it.”

Man Extreme - Dvels embodies the core Bulgari values as well as brings some modern and relevant grit to the brand -  unfortunately the green screened bits of the animals are a little distracting I wish they had rather gone for less striking imagery in favour of real shots. What do you think?



Eric Bana brings his usual charisma and excitement to his role and hopefully we'll see him again in the role of Man Extreme facing off against more credible extremes next time.
