Save Our Scripts
SOS is a development training program. It was born as an opportunity for writers and producers to meet and collaborate in a uniquely creative environment. As well as developing specific scripts, and building development skills the scheme aims to connect emerging writers and producers from across the UK with one another and with established professionals of the European Film Industry. Though we focus on working with British talent, we encourage their connection to a wider European industry through our international speakers and by traveling out of the country for one of the three workshops.
Creative Skillset continues its support of the training, whilst SOS welcomes new partnerships with The London Film School, Three Mills Studios, and the Genova-Liguria Film Commission.

The programme is searching for emerging writers with confident, singular voices, and producers with clear ambition who want to build on their development skills.

The programme is built around three workshops one of which will be a residential in Genova. During the programme the writers will develop a feature length screenplay from a short outline, with the ongoing support of the SOS mentors, and their fellow participants. The producers will partake in the final two workshops, and through seminars, group discussions and project specific work, will learn a range of development skills and approaches.

SOS is based on the value of shared experience. This begins with the course mentors, but continues amongst the participants themselves, and from the programme’s exceptional guest speakers.
The programme mentors are Valentina Brazzini who is responsible for development and talent tracking at The Bureau, Tristan Goligher the producer of Weekend and currently the Executive Producer of iFeatures2, and finally Matthieu de Braconier co-producer of London River and formerly executive producer of the prestigious Cinema Extreme short film scheme.

Past speakers include Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire), Joe Penhall (The Road), Hanif Kureishi (Venus), Thomas Bidegain and Pascal Caucheteux (A Prophet), and Michel Reilhac (Arte).

SOS FOR WRITERS
Writers on the programme will develop a feature length script from a core idea they initially submit in short form. This is done through intensive workshops that feature industry professionals, development support from SOS mentors, and structured input from the producer participants, and writing peers.

SOS FOR PRODUCERS
Producers on the programme will build their development skills. The workshops will feature industry professionals from whom the producer will learn development tools, and new ways of approaching this creative process. Moreover the producers will have an invaluable opportunity to fast track their development skills and improve their editorial taste by working on a number of the selected scripts whilst learning to work with different writers.

The Bureau commented: “We are really excited to be launching SOS for the third year. Each cycle of the programme allows us to engage and support the vast wealth of talented filmmakers that are looking for an opportunity to develop their skills. We are thrilled to have new partners on board who will aide us in ensuring this is SOS’s most successful year yet.”
