Mat Whitecross' The Sound of 007 music Documentary is released on 5 October 2022

As I referenced in my previous post, in this latter part of 2022 we continue with the 60 Anniversary celebration of James Bond’s breakout onto the silver screen and EON is putting on some fantastic events to mark the year.

Along with the re-release of all the Bond films back onto the big screenthe 60 Years of Bond Live Score series at The Royal Albert Hallthe BFI's James Bond at 60 Weekend - the 60th Anniversary of James Bond is being celebrated with a distinct focus on the music of Bond and why not? The sound of 007 is as important part of the heritage of Bond as any of the other principal elements.

Upcoming events include:

- The Royal Albert Hall to host The Sound of 007 in Concert, an official charity event to celebrate 007’s 60th anniversary to benefit music charities Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy and the BRIT Trust

- Following the concert, Prime Video will globally stream an exclusive recording - The Sound of 007: LIVE from the Royal Albert Hall - as part of the streamer’s 60th celebration of James Bond

- The Sound of 007 - the documentary directed by Mat Whitecross and produced by John Battsek for Ventureland - will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide from 5 October, following a preview at the ‘James Bond at 60’ weekend at the BFI Southbank on 1 October

- The Christie’s Sixty Years of James Bond two-part official charity sale will include multiple music lots including a No Time To Die song sheet with lyrics signed by Billie Eilish

- ‘Bond 25’, an album performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will also be released by DECCA on 23 September

Ever since hearing about the then untitled forthcoming documentary focused on the music of James Bond, now known as The Sound of 007, I have been quietly looking forward to it. If you read my post about “James Bond songs you may not have heard” you would know that I am keenly interested in the music, as well as the history of the music of Bond.

I am a huge fan of Russell Mulcahy’s body of work with a particular focus on his visual styling exemplified in his second feature the genre-bending 1986 sword & sorcery film Highlander. Like many of my favourite films, Highlander feels fresh and original whilst seeming intuitively familiar.

Regrettably, I have not posted nearly enough about the stuff I enjoy and with Studiocanal’s forthcoming 4K UHD remaster release of Highlander it seems a good time to pick up the mantle and continue.

The first and possibly the crown jewel in the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Bond events coming up that I am highlighting is the Sound of 007 in Concert which will take place on the 4th of October to mark the day Dr No premiered at the London Pavilion on October 5th, 1962.

THE SOUND OF 007 IN CONCERT might well be my most anticipated event of the year and I rank it up there along with the awe-inspiring Bond premieres held at the Royal Albert Hall. It is certainly a must-do for any Bond aficionado. Who knows when we will get the opportunity to experience a compliment of talent all together in one place like the evening of THE SOUND OF 007 IN CONCERT?

However, if you can’t attend the event you may be happy to know that The Sound of 007: LIVE from the Royal Albert Hall will be available to stream on Prime Video afterwards.

The THE SOUND OF 007 IN CONCERT is master-minded by one of my favourite Bond composers David Arnold and he is bringing a lineup that includes legends like a national treasure & the voice of Bond Dame Shirley Bassey (Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker).

The legendary Chrissie Hynde (The Living Daylights). This is a great turn of events as the last (and only) time I have heard Mz. Hynde perform was bittersweet - as I was listening to author Anthony Horowitz read from his 2015 Bond novel Trigger Mortis whilst Mz. Hynde was one floor down performing a set. My attempt to get both hemispheres of my brain to work independently so as to enjoy both sadly failed and Mr Horowitz won the night.

The always energetic Lulu will hopefully bring the smelting fire that makes her Bond theme The Man With The Golden Gun the most kinetic of them all.

American indie-rockers Garbage will also be making an appearance (The World is not Enough).

Arnold will also be bringing a compliment of young talent to give their interpretations of the Sound of 007 including; the uber talented Becky Hill who already has an epic version of Billie Eilish’s No Time To Die in the bag. I am looking forward to hearing her performance with the full force of the Royal Albert Hall's acoustic technology behind her and I am hoping that she blends more Bond Melody  in as alluded to in her No Time To Die.

At the end of Cary Joji Fukunaga's shocking No Time to Die, as in 22 of the 25 canon Bond films, starting with From Russia With Love (1963) including all of Daniel Craig's missions as Bond - we were teased with the classic signature that "James Bond will return" - but I suspect that many of us did not think it would be this soon.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Ian Fleming's James Bond being committed to the big screen in the shape of a panther-like Sean Connery in Terence Young's 1962 Dr. No, an adaptation of Ian Fleming's sixth James Bond novel of the same name.

For the 60th Anniversary of the beloved British franchise, all 25 Bond films will return to the big screen in the ultimate BOND retrospective which kicked off on Friday 14 April with Dr. No. The BOND retrospective will continue screening chronologically from April – October 2022, culminating in World Bond Day 5th October.

The first law for a secret agent is to get his geography right...
     – Ian Fleming - The Man with the Golden Gun, 1965

This week marks the 60th anniversary of the start of Principal shooting on Dr No at Palisades Airport in Kingston, Jamaica, on 16 January 1962.

After my plans for an epic 2020 European related Bond adventure were delayed, I was stoked that some of my late 2021 plans were able to go ahead and I shot into Jamaica, the spiritual home of James Bond and more pointedly the home-away-from-home for Bond creator Ian Fleming. Jamaica is after all where Fleming wrote all of his published James Bond thrillers as well as presumably his originally unpublished Bond TV series treatments; some of which were reworked into his For Your Eyes Only collection of short stories, another 2 have subsequently made their way into Anthony Horowitz's Bond novels and apparently another 3 exist.

Jamaica is referenced across Fleming’s Bond book series and five Bond stories had events taking place in Jamaica. The film versions of Dr No (1962) and Live and Let Die (1973) featured Bond in Jamaica as well as of course most recently Cary Fukunaga’s No Time To Die (2021).

He had arrived at Royale-les-Eaux in time for luncheon two days before. There had been no attempt to contact him and there had been no flicker of curiosity when he had signed the register 'James Bond, Port Maria, Jamaica'.

M had expressed no interest in his cover.

'Once you start to make a set at Le Chiffre at the tables, you'll have had it,' he said. 'But wear a cover that will stick with the general public.'

Bond knew Jamaica well, so he asked to be controlled from there and to pass as a Jamaican plantocrat whose father had made his pile in tobacco and sugar and whose son chose to play it away on the stock markets and in casinos.
     – Ian Fleming Casino Royale, 1953

With this preamble and some time to kill, I managed to visit some Jamaican locations with connections to Ian Fleming and Bond. These places included the “secret” location of James Bond's retirement home as featured in No Time To Die also sometimes referred to as – the James Bond Villa.

Any Bond fan worth his weight in sawdust soaked in nitro and coated with graphite will have some knowledge of Operation Mincemeat and some inkling of how James Bond author Ian Fleming was involved in this fantastical World War II operation.

Going into too much detail will ruin the tale and presumably the film in advance, but if you are unaware of Operation Mincemeat and its place in history, not only as one of the many bizarre military efforts planned in Room 39 or 13 during wartime Britain but the surprising outcome and strategic advantage Suggestion 28 of the Trout Memo gave Britain.

Bond fans have been expecting him and last night No Time To Die the 25th canon Bond film and Daniel Craig’s fifth and final mission as Ian Fleming’s James Bond premiered at the Royal Albert Hall and is in cinemas right now. A great opportunity has come up to join in a discussion with screenwriters Robert Wade and Neal Purvis, as a team they have been involved in seven James Bond films, 2 Pierce Brosnan outings - The World Is Not Enough (1999), Die Another Day (2002) and all of Daniel Craig’s Bond films - Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die (2021) as well as one James Bond console game – Quantum of Solace (2008).

It is 11 days until the No Time To Die Gala Premiere at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 28th September. This year proved to be the most difficult year to get tickets for what surely must be a once in a lifetime event, saying goodbye to Daniel Craig's run as James Bond.

In a stunning move, the producers have set the bar high and made it possible for health care workers to share in this incredible event by including them in premiere events around the UK as well as fittingly, proceeds from the premiere will benefit current and former members of the services protecting the United Kingdom.

Fortunately, No Time To Die will be going general release in the UK and Ireland 2 days later from 30th September 2021.

We are 17 days away from seeing Daniel Craig's last outing as James Bond in No Time To Die. Fans hopes and expectations have been sent awry due to Covid delays, but we are, as they say, in the end, game now for what surely should be an explosive climax to Craig's finale as Bond.

On the heels of the final, final trailer released last week, earlier today we received a heads up on a featurette introducing Bond’s new allies agents Nomi (Lashana Lynch) and Paloma played by Ana de Armas.

Brian Sanders: Selected Works - From 2001: A Space Odyssey to Mad Men - UPCOMING EXHIBITION

The Establishing Shot says visit the upcoming Brian Sanders: Selected Works - From 2001: A Space Odyssey to Mad Men ExhibitionI have only recently become familiar with British illustrator Brian Sanders' incredible body of outstanding work. It was actually through his artwork featured in Taschen's spellbinding book The Making of Stanley Kubrick’s '2001: A Space Odyssey' that I first became aware of Sanders.

Stanley Kubrick banned photographers from the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey and wasn't keen on visitors - but he invited Brian Sanders onto the set to capture the making of 2001 through his art, anyway he wished. Quite a commendation of the man's talent.

Moonpit 1, 2001: A Space Odyssey [+]
His name came up again whilst on a project in which I delved into the Science Fiction and Fantasy artists and illustrators of Great Britain, many of them sadly forgotten despite their incredible conceptual abilities and their skill to help us visualise fantastic imagery.

Whenever I pop by Taschen's London store I take a moment to admire Sanders2001 pieces on display in their Downstairs Gallery, along with many other gorgeous pieces and books.

Sanders was most recently responsible for that great piece of Mad Men promo art, that has stuck in my mind. He is a truly incredible talent so I'm quite chuffed that Brian Sanders and his work will be featured (for the first time) in an exhibition running from May through to July, here in London at the Lever Gallery and some outstanding pieces of his work can be viewed first hand.

5 Surprising real life celebrity spies that led double lives & the one you already know Mr. Ian Fleming and my Bond 25 dream team

5 Surprising real life celebrity spies that led double lives and the one you already know Mr. Ian Fleming and my Bond 25 dream team - GUEST FEATUREIf you are a regular reader you will know that I am a fan of John le Carré literature, something my father passed on to me. So of course the latest adaptation of his 2010 novel Our Kind of Traitor, his 22nd novel, is of interest to me, and who isn't intrigued when a public figure is revealed to have had a secret of double life?

Our Kind of Traitor is of further interest to me as it involves half of my current Bond 25 dream team:

Hossein Amini who has a rich varied body of work (The Four Feathers, The Wings of the Dove, Jude, 47 Ronin, Snow White and the HuntsmanShanghaiKillshot) and intrinsically brings relationships to the fore in all his works as well as has intelligently dealt with matters of secrecy, subterfuge and intrigue in his works like Peter Kosminsky's 1992 The Dying of the Light and Diarmuid Lawrence's 1996 Deep Secrets.

He has just adapted Norwegian bestselling Author Harry Hole's The Snowman starring Michael Fassbender, Chloë Sevigny & Rebecca Ferguson for Tomas Alfredson who previously directed John le Carré's Gary Oldman starrer Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Amini is probably most well known for adapting Drive for Nicolas Winding Refn, again showing his versatility but should be more feted for his rather brilliant adaption and direction of  Patricia Highsmith's The Two Faces of January starring Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Dunst & Oscar Isaac. I would love to see what Hossein Amini does with a Bond story arc.

I think Our Kind of Traitor Director Susanna White would bring all the right things to a Bond story. Not only a measured, nuanced approach to complex international intrigue but she also has an eye for action as demonstrated with her episodes, of one of the best War TV shows in recent history 2008's Generation Kill. My second choice would be the return of Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, Casino Royale) who constantly surprises, refreshes and updates with the demands of every film he takes on.

A Bond story written by Hossein Amini, directed by Susanna White, shot by Roger Deakins (Skyfall & everything he does is beautiful), Hoyte Van Hoytema (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Spectre, Interstellar, Dunkirk), Wally PfisterPhil Meheux, Roberto Schaefer or new to the list - Anthony Dod Mantle whose long list of beautifully shot films, which includes: In the Heart of the Sea, Rush, Trance, Dredd, The Eagle, 127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire, can add Our Kind of Traitor as the cherry on top. Would be a superb combination!

If Daniel Craig was not to return, Susanna White could bring along my current favourite choice for Bond - Damian Lewis who stars in Our Kind of Traitor and she has also worked with on the fast paced TV show Billions. Lewis sparkles with intelligence and can certainly pull off the physical side of the role with aplomb. Besides he has a fair resemblance to Ian Fleming.

Enough daydreaming already here is a list of 5 surprising real life celebrity spies that led double lives and the one you already know Mr. Ian Fleming.

Over the years, the film industry has produced a plethora of films that capitalise on the theme of espionage and the life of a spy. Due to the illusive nature of those who work with top-secret government intelligence, a whole host of different characters have been concocted in a bid to represent the life of a person with one of the most mysterious occupations on the planet. We’ve been shown debonair men, who drive around in extravagant cars and adorn expensive suits, like the infamous James Bond, to the more unassuming and calculating spy characters such as George Smiley.

The new film Our Kind of Traitor reimagines the spy once again, this time through the eyes of an unsuspecting couple who are thrust between the Russian Mafia and British Intelligence, neither of whom are as clear-cut good and bad as one would assume.

7 Things we are currently obsessed with

Fear The Waking Dead
I must confess I came to Fear The Walking Dead a little late. I was unsure if there was room in my life for another zombie related show as I am so heavily invested in the original Walking Dead and with its many tempestuous turns.

We binged watched the first season of Fear The Walking Dead before attending the second season premiere and we are smitten - of course these shows are less about zombies and more about the emotional roller coaster you are set on as you begin to become involved with the personalities featured in the show. Hopefully FTWD will fill the gap between Walking Dead seasons. A full write up of the Season 2 Premiere (what a night!) will be up soon including a brief chat with legendary producer Gale Anne Hurd.

What did the world look like as it was transforming into the horrifying apocalypse depicted in The Walking Dead? This spin-off set in Los Angeles, following new characters as they face the beginning of the end of the world, will answer that question.

I chat with Quentin Tarantino about his glorious Hateful Eight & he also tells us about his version of James Bond's Casino Royale

I Chat With Quentin Tarantino About His Glorious Hateful Eight & He Also Tells Us About His Version Of James Bond's Casino Royale - IN CONVERSATION REVIEW I had hoped to end last year with what I would consider a proverbial bang discussing a my cinematic highlight of 2015, instead I'm kicking off 2016 with that bang of a standard that will hopefully continue throughout the year.

There are many reasons as to why it was my cinematic event of the year if you read The Establishing Shot you'll probably be aware that I am all about the immersive experience and it's unlikely that I'll have as great viewing of a film for a very long time, if ever.

For better or worse I often struggle to appropriately articulate some of what I consider highlight or milestone experiences - words don't fail me rather I feel that these experiences are somewhat diminished when curating them for a broader audience. I have been fortunate to enjoy a number of extremely exceptional experiences that I have kept to/for myself as I have felt that in the end - they mean more to me personally than they would as just another blog post on the web. The irony being that was one of the reasons I started The Establishing Shot in the first place (add something here about moving over the festive season and losing a laptop with the original draft of this post).

This is one such experience...

CHAPTER ONE: THE RETURN OF THE BASTARD

Towards the end of last year I was extraordinarily fortunate along with a handful of others to see Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight as it was meant to be seen in all it's gloriousness. That staggering experience was a highlight of 2015 for me and further turned into a milestone memory when I got to chat with Quentin Tarantino about the making of The Hateful Eight.

The making of Legend - Director Brian Helgeland tells us about his take on The Krays and Tom Hardy, Emily Browning & Christopher Eccleston discuss the making of Legend – IN CONVERSATION

Legend European Press ConferenceTo be fair it seemed Legend was on the back foot with me from the get go. I am most definitely not a fan of straight up East End gangster films, especially if they are set in the 50/60s. The reality of post war trauma seems to bleed into every aspect of creativity and tales of this time seem mired in the bleak kitchen sink social realism that had become the mainstay sensibility of the day.

Sadly, this still proliferates the British gangster genre. And for me at least, it always seems that in an effort to show “how it really was/is” the entertainment value of the film is smothered, stuffed uncomfortably into a cement laden barrel and then dumped in the Thames. Don't even get me started on the authentically dark camera work and more often than not dank locations.

This is of course a sweeping generalisation and there is something inherently British about this combination that sometimes gives seed to masterful acting, great character studies, immersive style Cinéma vérité or poignant storytelling but more than not it's overshadowed by a noticeable diminishing of the entertainment factor. Some of my favourite noir films have sprung from this very combination like Jules Dassin's unforgettable Night and the CityJoseph Losey's Time Without Pity and more recently Paul McGuigan's Gangster No. 1 and more that I cannot think of off the cuff.

Add to that, that I am by no means a fan or have any interest in The Kray Twins. Ronnie and Reggie sound like wholly unlikeable chaps, again to be fair I have limited knowledge of the subject matter.

All that combined under the film's tagline: “The notorious true story of The Kray Twins” should have spelt cinematic disaster for me.

On our radar: Countdown to SPECTRE's release - All the updates News, Images, Posters and Videos

James bond SPECTRE NEWSSam Mendes' James Bond follow up to Skyfall - SPECTRE is just over a month away from smashing into UK cinemas on the 26 October 2015. Even though we have been following the production it feels like its imminent release kind of snuck up on us.

Since seeing Skyfall we have been positively hanging to see what Sam Mendes does with Bond 24 or SPECTRE as it is now known. But it has been a bit of a bumpy road - what with Bond screenwriting duo Neal Purvis and Robert Wade confirming they would be leaving the franchise just as Skyfall became its biggest success. Thankfully they did a turnaround. Sam Mendes hinted he may not return after Skyfall but again after some persuasion he has, unfortunately master cinematographer Roger Deakins has moved on despite being nominated for an Oscar for his stunning work on Skyfall.

Their efforts on Skyfall resulted in an all time high for the Bond franchise.

Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film, was a worldwide box office phenomenon, opening #1 in 70 territories around the world, taking over $1.1 billion worldwide and setting a new all-time box office record in the UK by becoming the first film to take over £100 million.

Not to mention the critical acclaim.

The 23rd Bond Film Wins More Than 30 Awards. As well as breaking international box-office records and being named in the “top 10 films of the year” lists by over 90 globally renowned film critics, SKYFALL’s cast and crew also won a number of prestigious filmmaking awards.

For the first time ever a Bond film, that is Sam Mendes' Skyfall was nominated and won the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film at the 66th British Academy Film Awards.

It had been 31 years since John Glen's For Your Eyes Only received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song in 1981 and 47 years since a Bond film was nominated for anything other than a sound related Oscar with Terence Young's 1965 Thunderball being nominated and winning the Oscar for Best Visual Effects at the 38th Academy Awards.

In total Skyfall racked up 5 Oscar nominations; Best Score, Original Song, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Cinematography. That is just slightly less than the 7 Oscar nominations that all the other 22 Bond films combined.

Since Daniel Craig exploded onto screen as James Bond in Martin Campbell's 2006 rebirth of Bond - Casino Royale the Bond franchise has slowly been building upwards in both Bond's character growth as well as success. But how do you top Skyfall?

Well I think Esquire Magazine has for the most part covered this in their exclusive interview with SPECTRE lead and co-Producer Daniel Craig:

We did have the conversation: it’s got to be bigger and better,” Craig says. “The stunts, the action, every department.” He holds out his palm, flat. It’s shaking. “I’m all jangly at the moment because it’s over. Sam has to lock the picture off for 7 September, so he’s got fuck-all time, basically. That’s it. Can’t go back and do it again. Tough shit.”

He doesn’t want to jinx it but, “I feel like we’ve all done our absolute fucking best and that’s a good feeling. Whether that makes a better movie we’ll see.

Is the “classic Bond” ethos still in place, I wonder? “Times 10!” Craig almost shouts, momentarily revelling in his role as hype man. He repeats it when I laugh, holding his beer in the air. “It’s Skyfall times 10!

And that is a point he is keen to make. For all the soul searching, he says, Spectre is “a celebration of all that’s Bond”.

There is a new supercar, the Aston Martin DB10. There are beautiful women, played by the va-va-voom Italian bombshell Monica Bellucci and the kittenish Léa Seydoux. There are signature set pieces: a thrilling opening in Mexico City; a car chase through Rome; action sequences in the Austrian Alps, in Tangier and in London. There’s a thuggish henchman (the first of Craig-era Bond) played by the former wrestler Dave Bautista. And there’s an evil megalomaniac, played by the great Christoph Waltz, devilish star of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained.

Reading the synopsis for SPECTRE it looks like the Bond team are again delving into the personal story of the man behind the mythos, how James Bond becomes 007 as well as slowly bringing more of the formulaic elements to the fore. But with some certainty all we can expect is the unexpected as the story rolls out and hopefully puts elements into play that push out into Bond 25 and beyond, bringing the same team together again to make some magic.

Sony Made for Bond Advert Naomie HarrisEWe are less than two months away from Sam Mendes' SPECTRE, the 24th cinematic outing of Ian Fleming's James Bond, exploding on to screen in the UK - on 6 November.

In the run up to SPECTRE's release Sony have a little surprise for Bond fans and released a Bond inspired advert for their new Xperia Z5 smartphone and compact RX100 IV Cyber-shot camera. To create the advert they asked Danny Kleinman – the man behind many of the legendary Bond title sequences to direct and Miss Moneypenny herself - Naomie Harris to take the lead in the 60 Second advert highlighting the advanced functionality of both the Sony Xperia Z5 smartphone and compact RX100 IV Cyber-shot. All set to the iconic backdrop of Bond's home - London.

James Bond themes you probably haven't heard before

James Bond Themes You Have Not Heard

So a little while back a friend and I were discussing the music of James Bond over a Jameson at The Ham Yard Hotel. The week prior in anticipation of Bond 24's SPECTRE expected confirmed production kick-off I had dragged him along to see the West End musical Made in Dagenham with music by David Arnold and starring amongst others Ms Gemma Arterton. With the involvement of Bond alumni, the conversation naturally veered towards the music of Bond.

Firstly regarding Made in Dagenham I liked the bold brassy Britishness of it, the clever set design, my associate liked Mark Hadfield's incredibly hilarious and surreal turn as Harold Wilson and we both loved the dips into Monty Pythonesque political satire & the surprising powerfulness of Gemma Arterton's voice.

We are both from the Roger Moore Bond era and agree on most of the themes and music, but whilst my associate leans towards the Roger Moore female vocal era like; Carly Simon (Nobody Does It Better), Shirley Bassey (Moonraker), Sheena Easton (For Your Eyes Only), Rita Coolidge (All Time High) - whilst I have a strong leaning to the classic Bond sound where it felt they were forging the legend, Shirley Bassey, as well as the incidental music of James Bond.

That is the music in the less exposed moments of the films where the musicians can explore, experiment and bring their personal visions of the film to life - particularly David Arnold's work and Eric Serra's work on GoldenEye. Whilst researching this post I have to say I fell in love with the Roger Moore female vocal era all over again.

The conversation strayed into the grey area of the what-ifs? An area populated by the likes of Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse, a returning Adele, Noel Gallagher, MobyKaren O, MuseBjork, Natacha Atlas, etc. as well as pretty much everyone on Shaken and Stirred: The David Arnold James Bond Project in collaboration with @DavidGArnold. And this got me thinking about unused James Bond Themes.

Not to stray too far but David Arnold and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be bringing A Night at the Movies: David Arnold Live in Concert to London, specifically the Barbican tonight Thursday 18 June 2015. And will be playing a selection from his scores including music from; James Bond: Casino Royale, The World Is Not Enough, Tomorrow Never Dies, Die Another Day, Quantum of Solace, Sherlock, Made in Dagenham, Independence Day, Godzilla, Stargate, Last of the Dogmen, Paul, Music from the London 2012 Olympics and more. For more info on David Arnold's tour dates follow David Arnold on Twitter: @DavidGArnold

With the SPECTRE theme announcement imminent and sadly the Bond SPECTRE boats finally leaving their mooring at the Imperial Wharf Marina this week, presumably signalling the end of the Bond Westminster part of filming. I thought I would highlight some of the lesser-known alternative, demo or rejected James Bond theme songs that quite possibly many may have never heard of - but are occasionally discussed amongst Bond aficionados.

The list is ordered chronologically, starting with:

FIRST LOOK at Daniel Craig as James Bond in Spectre and Spectre on Location: Sölden Vlog

First Look at Daniel Craig as James Bond in SPECTREYesterday not only did we get a long overdue official James Bond Spectre clapperboard update from the set of Spectre shooting at Blenheim Palace - back here in the UK. We were also promised the first official behind the scenes footage of Spectre today at 7am.

Yes! Op delivered! And along with the first behind the scenes 007 vlog footage from the Spectre location at Sölden, Austria we also got to see our first look at Daniel Craig as James Bond in Spectre.

On a side note: if Bond was looking to revitalise its British roots you don't get more British than the Blenheim Palace, the ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill.

SECOND LOOK! Bond 24 on location as James Bond explodes back into action for SPECTRE at MI6 on the Thames & we take a close look at the SPECTRE boat - FYEO POTENTIAL SPOILERS - FILM LOCATION

Bond 24 SPECTRE LocationAs you must no doubt be aware there is much excitement in the capital as filming of Bond 24 SPECTRE is continuing in London with the action taking place back on the Thames yesterday, Camden Locke the day before and that evening in Notting Hill.

The Bond team seem to be burning the candle at both ends trying to complete filming in London as quickly as possible before moving on to other locations. Probably in an effort to minimise spoilery leaks in the capital, but at the same time - to give you some insight into how us Londoners feel about having *arguably* Britain's greatest literary and cinematic spy back on home ground, in London read the tweet below from the Camden location.

Watch Robbie Williams' Secret Agent advert for Café Royal Coffee & download the Secret Agent theme song Bully for free - WATCH THIS!

Bond 24 SPECTRE LocationIt's been 16 years since Robbie Williams released his chart topping single Millenium off the album I've Been Expecting You. That would make it 16 years since I first heard who Robbie Williams is.

Being a Bond fan I instantly liked Millenium a catchy aspirational song that sounded like nothing else at the time and it referenced John Barry's You Only Live Twice James Bond theme without directly sampling it. I wasn't wild about Vaughan Arnell's cheeky Bond parody video for Millennium initially but sometimes a bit of everyman Bond is better than no Bond at all.

EON Productions respond to SPECTRE script leak - BOND NEWS

Bond 24 SPECTRE Script leakedSadly the fallout from the Sony hack is continuing at an alarming rate and whilst some news outlets seem to be scraping the bottom of the bucket to wring out anything that might still be newsworthy from it. In an eery turn that could have been lifted straight out of the pages from Skyfall - it looks like the rumours of the leaked James Bond script SPECTRE are now confirmed.

In response EON Productions have come out strongly and in a statement released on the official James Bond website http://www.007.com/ and made it very clear where they stand.

As we did with Skyfall - when we heard, via our sources that the Bond production team were ramping up for the first on-location SPECTRE shoot outside of their Pinewood Studios 007 Stage. We immediately dispatched one of our top men - Hemingford Grey to the scene, keen to hear what he could uncover.

As it turns out quite a lot (I can't get him to stop talking) he has sadly taken an oath of secrecy on some very exciting bits but he certainly did not learn enough to give any indication to the larger world of SPECTRE. I should warn you that even though there is much wild speculation in and amongst what we know reading this may - potentially spoil a very cool scene from SPECTRE. Over to Hemingford.

Very often while watching an old film I would think something to the effect of Wow! It must have been really special to be around when that was made. Naturally being a confirmed Bondophile it happens a lot when watching Bond's escapades.

Visiting or seeing a film location in real life brings one a little closer to the magic of film beyond the screen. And in some small way allows you to capture a little bit of the magic. Sitting around with the great-grandkids one day when the old James Bond classic SPECTRE comes on TV, being able to say "Yea I saw that in real life" is quite special, hell it's even special for me to be able to say right now.

And again we take some pride in the fact that we can bring you some news & photos that are hot off the press for Bond fan eyes only.

Bond Legends gather to launch the Bond in Motion Exhibition at The London Film Museum, we bring you an inside look & Bond Producers drop some Bond 24 updates Part 3 - EVENT REPORT

Bond in Motion London Film MuseumT he third and final part of my write up from my brilliant day at the Bond in Motion exhibition at the London Film MuseumThere are many more pictures from the day over here! and part 1 of my write up can be found here! and part 2 here!

Moving past the Tomorrow Never Dies display I find the The World Is Not Enough display with a model BMW Z8 driven by a Pierce Brosnan Bond doll and the King Industries Buzzsaw helicopter as well as the BMW Z8 from the film. I've never been a particular fan of BMW's car design but being up close to the BMW Z8 I was reminded of its retro stylings and beautiful curves all very reminiscent of the gorgeous 50s 507 BMW, it is possibly the most beautiful production car to come out of BMW from the last couple of decades.

Bond in Motion London Film MuseumC continuing my adventures at the Bond in Motion exhibition at the London Film MuseumBeyond the first room in the cavernous underground level - the museum has been expanded and walls have been put in to divide the underground into displays areas by Bond film. But two distinct grouped display areas have also been created - one for marine vehicles and the other housing mainly non car vehicles, with the large remainder of the exhibition spread out along the sides of a walkway categorised by film. There are many more pictures from the day over here! and part 1 of my write up can be found here! and part 3 here!

Further still, a restaurant area with smaller models on display, a museum shop and still being constructed on the day I visited a dedicated games room.

I'm guessing when the exhibition is open to the public it would make sense to walk along the right side along the walkway the entire way round as the car & model displays are on either side, or navigate via the audio guide I stick to the right side to check out the Die Another Day vehicles; James Bond's Aston Martin V12 Vanquish or Vanish as Q calls it, Zao's Jaguar XKR and the Bombardier MX Z-REV Ski-Doo.

Bond Legends gather to launch the Bond in Motion Exhibition at The London Film Museum, we bring you an inside look Part 1 - FILM EXHIBITION

Bond in Motion London Film MuseumA couple of weeks back I was privileged to attend an absolutely brilliant preview of the outstanding Bond in Motion Exhibition right in the heart of London at the London Film Museum. I'm trying not to lay it on too thick but as a Bond fan - the day was a definite Bond milestone for me personally and the Bond in Motion exhibition is absolutely magnificent! As much as I dislike it I have had to split my write up over 3 posts, sorry, I hate it when other people do it so I know how it feels but I wanted to fit as much in as possible. There are many more pictures from the day over here! and part 2 of my write up can be found here! and part 3 here!

Earlier that morning full of anticipation I headed out into the sunny but crisp morning crossed the bridge, swerving out of a little Chelsea square into King's Road, pushing fast up Sloane Street pointed in the direction of Covent Garden. As usual I passed 22b Ebury Street, today this had extra significance, as I made my way into Central London - the space between Covent Garden and Strand to be exact. Once I located the fairly discrete (by London standards) London Film Museum at 45 Wellington Street - I paused to savour the moment.

The Establishing Shot: BOND IN MOTION - BOND PRODUCTION DESIGNERS PETER LAMONT & SIMON LAMONT ARRIVE AT THE LONDON FILM MUSEUM

I have a long relationship with the London Film Museum, I was a regular visitor at their previous Waterloo location and for a few hours I could be lost in the magical world of film that I love, find inspiration, be blown away by the varied and incredible props on display or just relax with a coffee next to a piece of film history next to me as well as on occasion bump into one of my heroes browsing the museum. For any film fan it is a must visit. Seriously I don't want to bang on about it but, the guys behind the London Film Museum deserve serious kudos and thanks for turning a film lovers fantasy world into a reality everyday. When I heard that Bond in Motion was coming to the London Film Museum I was over the moon finally I could immerse myself in  the world of Bond at an accessible location.

I knew it was being billed as the largest (and most up to date) official collection of original James Bond vehicles (cars, bikes, sleds and boats), miniature models, action sequence boards, vehicle concept art and props from all of the James Bond films on display for the first time in London - but I had not looked into too much detail of what delights the Bond in Motion exhibition had in store for me - so as not to ruin all the surprises. But I did have chats lined up with four Bond luminaries that would be visiting to support the launch of the Bond in Motion exhibition. You can read my chat with Bond stunt precision driver Ben Collins here!, my chat with special effects master Chris Corbould here! and my chat with legendary stuntman Vic Armstrong here!. During the chats whenever a Bond film scene is referenced any I try show pieces from the Bond in Motion collection so you'll get an idea of what to expect.

But wait Craig that's only 3/4 chats I hear you say. Yea I also had a chat lined up with Ms. Caterina Murino the first Bond lady of the Daniel Craig era - or Solange Dimitrios, from Casino Royale. But as the day wore on I finalised a decision that pained me and may well haunt me moving forward. I decided not to chat with Ms. Murino, the reason is simple I am a huge Bond fan, I love delving into the elements behind the magic. The craftsmen & women that turn fantasy into screen reality but I now draw the line at ruining the mystique of the Bond Ladies, for me they are for the most part still rare, exotic, complicated creatures, that add depth and weave to the story, throw wrenches in the works, or sometimes sadly just devices to move the narrative along, or break hearts or have their hearts broken. And for now that is how Caterina Murino / Solange Dimitrios will stay for me - forever etched as an ethereal fantasy. But you can catch more of Caterina Murino in XIII: The Series currently on Sky 2.
