Empire BIG SCREENDon’t be afraid to dream a little BIGger SCREEN, darling. The countdown on my home page tells me that there are only 8 days left till the biggest film event in the UK cinema calendar. I am of course referring to Empire presents ……. BIG SCREEN.

If you haven’t heard of BIG SCREEN yet I envy the pure joy and pleasure as you realise that that possibly one of the best film related events in the world is going to be held here right in our very own London and urge you to acquire tickets asap. If you have heard of BIG SCREEN I’m sure I’ll see you there.

BIG SCREEN the 3 day event previously known as Movie-Con is in its fourth year (and its first as BIG SCREEN). The first Movie-Con unfortunately falling on the same weekend that I was doing my hair so I missed it, but I have been to every one since and had an incomparably awesome experience as Empire have built up a fan base and a reputation as one of the greatest film events that money can buy you a ticket for.

Described as “SD Comic Con Business class” and this year is undoubtedly its biggest and greatest yet as it leaves the intimate and personal spaces of the BFI and takes over the entire O2 Dome (the only man made structure in Greenwich that can be seen from outer space). Empire have worked long and hard to bring Premieres, previews, talks and workshops with filmmakers as well exhibitions together for fans.

The full and no holds barred line up can be found over at the BIG SCREEN website here: http://www.empirebigscreen.com/home but below are some highlights.

- 2 Movie premieres - Fright Night and Conan The Barbarian 3D
- 3 Secret screenings
- Special screenings of Cowboys and Aliens, Rise of The Planet of Apes, Friends With Benefits, The Ultimate Twilight Marathon, The Guard, The Help, Spielberg's Terra Nova and Red State amongst others. With all the fuss Kevin Smith has been kicking up lately about press screenings of Red State and praising Empire I would be very surprised if he doesn’t pop up and introduce the film himself.

Q&A's, Panel Discussions, Interviews and exclusive never seen footage introduced by the movie makers themselves including Directors and A-List Stars including:
- The Amazing Spider-Man
- Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol
- The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
- Real Steel
- The Woman in Black
- Meet the creators of Wallace and Gromit
- Meet the writers of The Inbetweeners

- Plus much much more!
- Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making Of Harry Potter
- To Infinity and Beyond: Celebrating 25 Years of Pixar Animation Studios

And it has just been announced that:

To celebrate STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA (for now & on this format) launching on Blu-ray September 12th, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment have teamed up with Empire Presents…BIG SCREEN for three days of incredible Star Wars activity at London’s The O2.

C-3P0 himself, Anthony Daniels, will be on hand on August 12th and 13th to introduce a very special Industrial Light & Magic presentation, where the geniuses behind Star Wars’ ground-breaking effects will guide audiences through the secrets of the beloved movie series.

Joining Anthony Daniels on stage will be two of ILM’s most key talent – Digital Artist John Goodson and Visual Effects Supervisor Bill George. Fans will hear from Bill and John as they take us on a journey behind the scenes of the films while revealing exclusive new content which will be found in the upcoming release of STAR WARS™: THE COMPLETE SAGA on Blu-ray.

In addition, on Saturday August 13th only, there will be an incredible Star Wars Blu-ray Lounge, in association with Panasonic. This amazing installation will bring the high definition wonder of the upcoming STAR WARS™: THE COMPLETE SAGA on Blu-ray to a virtual living room at London’s The O2, with some exclusive sneak peeks at some of the 40-hours of special features never-before seen in the comfort of our dedicated lounge.

Attendees will also receive a limited edition Star Wars character mask! Fans are also invited to the lounge on Saturday to share and record their own personal Star Wars story as part of the Star Wars Stories Project.

Meanwhile, over the duration of the weekend, every fan attending Empire Presents… BIG SCREEN will have the special opportunity to be photographed on part of a replica Star Wars set, complete with legendary characters C-3P0 and R2-D2 – a memorable treat for families and fans of all ages. Families are also invited all three days to take part in the Star Wars Padawan Training where attendees will learn how to use the force to save the galaxy.
