007,

skyfallAs promised Sony released the first official still from the 23rd James Bond cinematic adventure Skyfall online at www.007.com this morning. Let's take a look at it.

In the picture we see James Bond in a neon lit room. Bond seems to be unshaven and warmly dressed. His outfit seemingly adapted for stealth activities, despite his black gloves a closer look shows a white high collar shirt under his upturned lapel - so either Bond has been thrown in to this mission - continuing the theme from Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace or this Bond doesn't need over engineered gadget solutions or stealth suits. The stubble on his face tells us a similar story albeit hinting at a harder colder Bond. He seems to be in the midst of the action as his brow is beaded with sweat.

Highlight of the pic for me has to be that it looks like Bond is again using the smaller Walther PPK 7,65 mm rather than bulkier Walther P99 used in Casino Royale, this could be for ease of travel or a welcome return to Bond's original hand gun of choice. Reiterating the subtle message in my previous paragraph that Bond is returning to his more serious origins. Although it should be noted that early publicity shots from  Casino Royale of Daniel Craig as Bond used the Walther P99 but it was never actually used in the film.

The location: Well it is no surprise to anyone that has been following Skyfall that this particular picture is from a scene set in Shanghai. The neon lit room is the same one pictured in the teaser picture below uploaded by https://www.facebook.com/JamesBond007 and https://twitter.com/#!/007.

As I say anyone who has been following Skyfall knows that this picture was taken around the same time Ascot Racecourse was being used to double for Shanghai Pudong International Airport. And although the sign reflected in the glass next to Bond in the new pic reads QUE... and underneath INTE... one would assume this was a VIP airport lounge. However presumably James Bond will not be engaging in similar activities as he did at Miami Airport in Casino Royale so this is more likely to be a night time visit by James Bond to a Shangai location which was filmed at Ascot .

Putting together some bits from the Welcome to 007.com video below from the same set released in December. I'm guessing the location Bond is visiting is an office for Que Optic International. Hence all the neon and lighting. In Chinese Que could mean High, valuable or free-standing ceremonial tower so I'm guessing that Que Optic International is based in a Shangai skyscraper. If the bits we have seen so far are not from the pre-title sequence. I'm guessing Que Optic International is one piece of the puzzle that James Bond has to decode to uncover the mystery behind  SKYFALL.

But I can't help but wander if it has more to do with the threat in SKYFALL? High, Sky? Lasers? Fall?  The mystery of  SKYFALL deepens. Of course this could all be a ruse and a pun on Q (Ben Whishaw) or Que's introduction to the James Bond series - I'm just saying.
