The Establishing Shot: American Express presents Films on the Flytower 16 – 25 August - Film Festivals

As part of National Theatre Inside Out, American Express presents Films on the Flytower. Six classic cinematic tales, all giving an insight into life behind the scenes of entertainment industry will be projected onto the National’s iconic Flytower, turning it into a massive outdoor cinema screening: This is Spinal Tap, The Producers, Bullets Over Broadway, Bullets Over Broadway, The Circus, The Red Shoes and Vincent Price's classic Theatre of Blood

All screenings are free, with limited deckchair seating on the Baylis Terrace on Level 2. American Express Cardmembers benefit from a dedicated seating area on level with wireless headphones and popcorn.

This Is Spinal Tap Films on the Flytower

This is Spinal Tap - Thursday 16 August at 9pm
The ultimate backstage ‘rockumentary’ charts the demise of Spinal Tap, the world’s loudest heavy metal band, on their American comeback tour, culminating in the legendary Stonehenge gig

The Producers - Friday 17 August at 9pm
Two lacklustre Broadway producers attempt to lose money on the worst production in theatrical history: and now it’s ‘Springtime for Hitler’.


Starring Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder and Christopher Hewett (1968, dir: Mel Brooks, 88 mins)



Bullets Over Broadway - Saturday 18 August at 9pm
Woody Allen’s comedic speakeasy masterpiece reveals the offstage dramas when playwrights and actors come into fatal contact with the Mafia.


Starring John Cusack, Dianne Wiest and Jim Broadbent (1994, dir: Woody Allen, 98 mins)



The Circus - Thursday 23 August at 9pm
When a tramp accidentally joins the circus, he falls in love with a beautiful trapeze artist; the arrival of a handsome and dashing tightrope walking rival brings out a perilous competitive streak.


Starring Charlie Chaplin, Merna Kennedy and Al Ernest Garcia (1928, dir: Charlie Chaplain, 71 mins).



The Red Shoes - Friday 24 August at 9pm
Powell and Pressburger’s visually stunning and groundbreaking depiction of the world of ballet and the brutal and cruel sacrifices the dancers make in order to achieve greatness.


 Starring Moira Shearer, Marius Goring and Robert Helpmann (1948, dir: Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, 133 mins)




Theatre of Blood
Vincent Price glowers magnificently in this Shakespearian horror-fest showing the murderous consequences that can happen when theatre critics give bad reviews...

National Theatre Inside Out, in partnership with American Express, runs from 1 June to 9 September, offering a packed festival programme as the theatre bursts out onto its riverside terraces and squares.
