The Establishing Shot says visit the Kick-Ass film location of the lobby of Frank D'Amico's penthouseThe eagerly anticipated Jeff Wadlow adaptation of Mark Millar's Kick-Ass 2 will be in cinemas this week on 14 August so it seems timely that we take a look at one of the very easy to visit locations from Matthew Vaughn's 2010 Kick-Ass.

Back in 2010 the comic hero to film landscape was dominated by large scale big budget films then along came Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass made for £19 Mill, considerably less than your average blockbuster and raking in triple that at £62 Mill. Ensuring that in all likelihood we would see more of Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) adventures as the costumed vigilante Kick-Ass. What did Hollywood learn from this financial case study ?

But there was no way a “super” hero film based on a Mark Millar comic adapted by Jane Goldman and directed by Matthew Vaughn would not to be seared into our shared collective/cultural consciousness.

Kick-Ass 2 like Kick-Ass was filmed in both the UK and Canada, with Toronto filling in for Kick Ass's New York City skyline and the bulk of the film shot against Blue screen at Pinewood Studios and some scenes at Elstree Studios, Borehamwood.

Whilst Ashmole Academy is one of the UK film locations used in Kick-Ass 2 - UK locations for the original Kick-Ass includes: Beckton Reach Sewage Works - Sludge bed, where Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) trains Hit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) in the finer points of bullet proofing and high speed projectile impact.

Afterwards they celebrate at the All Star Lanes at Whiteleys Shopping Centre, Bayswater where Mindy Macready street name Hit-Girl, played by Chloë Grace Moretz and her father Damon Macready aka Big Daddy played by Nicolas Cage have milkshakes and discuss birthday presents.

But today we are looking at the location of the entrance and lobby of Frank D'Amico's (Mark Strong) penthouse.

In the climactic build up to the finale of  Kick-AssHit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) and Kick-Ass himself (Aaron Johnson) decide that a frontal assault on crime boss Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong) is the best way to proceed - so they devise a two horned attack plan.

The plan is then initiated by Hit -Girl who has to gain entry to the D'Amico's top floor New York penthouse by getting up through the building. Her first point of contact is the lobby where she dispatches a bunch of lobby Goons including one played by Matthew Vaughn regular - Jason Flemyng.

Despite the yellow cabs and New York style clothing on the concierge staff this scene was actually filmed at County Hall in Waterloo, London, England.

Most of the fittings have been kept the same - but two false walls were put in to make the lobby smaller. In the pics below you get a better look at one of the false walls with the fake elevator door put in. Chloë Grace Moretz can be seen posing against the fake wall in the last picture below.

The lobby is situated at the back (non-riverside) entrance to County Hall & The London Film Museum, on the south side of Westminster Bridge and be accessed from Belvedere Road.

This exact entrance and lobby were also used in Brian De Palma's Mission Impossible starring Tom Cruise but that is another story.

If you do pop by for a look its worth visiting The London Film Museum upstairs they always have interesting props or pieces of film history on display.
