Sadly none of our updates include the words DREDD or Prometheus (yet) - Sir Ridley was rumoured to be checking out Kapow! Last year for Prometheus as were Nick Frost and Noel Clarke. Both Frost and Clarke have now confirmed they'll be at Kapow! GARETH EVANS, WRITER AND DIRECTOR OF ‘THE RAID’, INVADES KAPOW!
As The Raid invades cinemas from Friday 18th May, Kapow! is delighted to welcome writer and director Gareth Evans, who will be taking part in the Momentum Pictures Showcase panel on Saturday 19th and appearing on the Total Film stage. You can read our review of The Raid right here!

The Raid, which has already been receiving glowing advanced reviews, follows a doomed SWAT team who become trapped in a tenement run by a ruthless mobster and his army of killers and thugs. The Raid will be just one of several upcoming titles within the Momentum Showcase showing exclusive footage.

The Momentum Pictures Showcase panel on Saturday 19th will include David Oyelowo (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Spooks) star of George Lucas’ produced World War II drama ‘Red Tails’ introducing exclusive footage from the highly anticipated movie.

Footage from the thriller ‘Red Lights’ starring Cillian Murphy, Robert DeNiro and Sigourney Weaver, ‘House at the End of the Street’ starring Hollywood’s latest hot property Jennifer Lawrence and more will also be unveiled. The panel will also include a Q&A with the writer and director of The Raid, Gareth Evans.

IGN - the UK’s largest video games and entertainment website, has teamed up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to bring Batman to London’s KAPOW! Comic Convention, as game developer Rocksteady Studios discusses the story behind its multi-award winning videogame of 2011, Batman: Arkham City.  The panel will take place on 19 May.

Rocksteady’s four senior creatives will discuss the making of Batman: Arkham City in conversation with IGN’s UK Editor-in-Chief, Alex Simmons.  Fans attending the panel will hear first-hand from Game Director Sefton Hill and key members of the team, including Lead Narrative Designer Paul Crocker, Audio Director Nick Arundel and Art Director David Hego.

The hour-long session will give insight into how Rocksteady approached creating a game for the much-loved comic book icon and making a game worthy of the Batman legend.

This year’s KAPOW! Comic Convention takes place on the weekend of May 19th and 20th at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London. In addition to comic-book panels with Marvel, DC, Image and Millarworld, announced events taking place so far include An Audience with Nick Frost, Noel Clarke Q&A with exclusive footage from Storage 24, plus two of Britain’s biggest comedians, Jimmy Carr and Frankie Boyle will also be appearing as will much loved TV personality and comic-book writer Jonathan Ross.

As the first in our series of major film and TV announcements which will be made over the coming days in the lead up to the event, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears open.
Nick, who has starred in many beloved classics including Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead and Paul, will be chatting about his incredible career so far and his future plans, so come along to Kapow!, and ask Nick your burning questions.

NOEL CLARKE PRESENTS STORAGE 24 AT KAPOW! WITH DIRECTOR JOHANNES ROBERTS 
Storage 24 sees London in chaos after a military plane crashes leaving highly sensitive cargo crashes strewn across the city. Blissfully unaware of the situation outside Charlie (Noel Clarke) and Shelley (Antonia Campbell–Hughes), accompanied by friends Mark (Colin O‘Donoghue) and Nikki (Laura Haddock), are at Storage 24 dividing up their possessions after a recent break–up. When the power suddenly goes off, they find themselves trapped in a dark maze of endless corridors, with a mystery predator hunting them down one by one. In a place designed to keep things in, how do you get out?

Leading Entertainment Company Will Bring Top Executives and Talent to UK Convention

DC Entertainment announced its plans today to bring some of the company’s top executives and creators to Kapow! to discuss the year’s highly anticipated BEFORE WATCHMEN comic book event, the record-breaking initiative that took the industry by storm this past September, DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, and the four new series from acclaimed adult imprint, Vertigo. On hand to discuss all things DC Entertainment will be Co-Publisher Dan DiDio, Vertigo Senior Editor and BEFORE WATCHMEN series editor, Will Dennis, Senior Vice President of Sales Bob Wayne, and a roster of major talent including Scott Snyder, Peter Milligan, Paul Cornell and Ian Churchill. DC COMICS – THE NEW 52

DC COMICS – THE NEW 52 is the industry’s most talked about industry-shattering event of the last year.  Although the landscape has changed, we’re not done making news!  Come by and be a part of history as DCE Co-Publisher Dan DiDio and Senior Vice President of Sales Bob Wayne discuss the books that are shaping the dawn of this new era along with some of the major talent writing and illustrating these titles, including Scott Snyder (BATMAN, SWAMP THING), Peter Milligan (RED LANTERNS), Paul Cornell (STORMWATCH) and Ian Churchill (THE RAVAGERS).

DAN DIDIO was named Co-Publisher of DC Entertainment alongside Jim Lee in February 2010. This announcement coincided with the naming of DC Entertainment’s executive team.

Previously to being named Co-Publisher, DiDio served as Senior Vice President and Executive Editor, overseeing the editorial department for the DC Universe line of comic book titles. As the DC Universe Executive Editor, DiDio charted the ongoing adventures of Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, The Flash and scores of heroes and villains; he also worked to develop new titles with the industry’s premier writers and artists.

At DC Entertainment, DiDio has spearheaded such bestselling projects as BLACKEST NIGHT, GREEN LANTERN, IDENTITY CRISIS, ALL STAR SUPERMAN, ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER and 52.

Before joining DCE in January 2002, DiDio was with the computer animation company Mainframe Entertainment where he served as freelance story editor and scriptwriter for the television series Reboot and War Planets.  Later he became its Senior Vice President, Creative Affairs, overseeing the development, distribution, marketing, and promotion as well as merchandising and licensing of all Mainframe's television properties. Among the television projects he developed were Weird-Ohs, Beast Machines, Black Bull's Gatecrasher and Jill Thompson's Scary Godmother.  He began his television career in 1981 at CBS, where he worked at a variety of positions before moving to Capital Cities/ABC in 1985.  At ABC, DiDio served as Public Relations Manager for the three New York-based daytime dramas, then moved to Los Angeles to become Executive Director of Children's Programming.  In this post, he was responsible for Saturday morning programs and After School Specials and served as Program Executive on such series as Tales from the Cryptkeeper, Hypernauts, Madeline, Dumb and Dumber, and Reboot.



KAPOW! TEAMS UP WITH TOTAL FILM, SFX AND COMIC HEROES
KAPOW! COMIC CONVENTION is once again hosting the annual Stan Lee Awards on Saturday 19th May, and the list of nominations is now in! Compiled by a variety of expert judges from the world of comics, movies, TV, gaming, publishing and entertainment – the shortlist of nominations is now open to public vote at http://www.kapowcomicconvention.com/awards 

KAPOW! is taking place at the London Business Design Centre on 19th & 20th May 2012, and visitors will be amongst the first in the world to get an exclusive look at various upcoming comics, movie blockbusters and hit TV shows from the biggest publishers and studios in the world.

Stan Lee is honoured to have these awards in his name explaining “this is a fantastic platform to reward the cream of comic book talent for all their creativity and imagination”.

This year Spider-Man, Daredevil, Batman and Wonder Woman battle it out for the Best Comic Hero award, Sara Pichelli is up for two awards Best Newcomer and Best Artist, and Best Film looks set to be close contest between Captain America, Thor, X-Men: First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The Walking Dead is up for Best TV Show again this year, can they win this prestigious award two years running?

The announced comic guest list is unrivalled, and includes many creators who haven’t attended UK conventions in almost 20 years. Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr, who both contribute to UK news stand magazine CLiNT, will be doing a Q&A. JIMMY CARR INTERVIEWS FRANKIE BOYLE BOYLE ON GEEK CULTURE  - LIVE AT KAPOW! LONDON
Kapow! is the UK's A-list comic-book and comic-book movie festival taking place at Business Design Centre, London on 19th & 20th May 2012 – www.kapowcomicconvention.com. The biggest names in comic books, television and movies are coming from all over the world for this show as Marvel, DC, 2000AD and all the big Hollywood studios and television production companies show us their wares for the next 12 months.

One not-to-be-missed event at the show is the CLINT MAGAZINE panel on Sunday 20th May where comedian and writer Frankie Boyle will be interviewed by the brilliant Jimmy Carr about everything from his love of comic books, his plans for his next comic-book series to his love of genre fiction and movies.

Clint magazine is the brain-child of Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar and has featured comic strips from Jonathan Ross, Ian Rankin, Jimmy Carr and Frankie Boyle in the eighteen months since its release as well as the likes of Kick-Ass 2 and all the other regular comic-book strips like Turf and Nemesis.


KAPOW! HOSTS LUCHA LIBRE WRESTLING EXTRAVAGANZA

The sensational award-winning Lucha Britannia wrestlers are performing live throughout the weekend at Kapow! Comic Convention, which takes place on 19th & 20th May at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London www.kapowcomicconvention.com

Lucha Britannia, who have appeared at Glastonbury, Download, Reading, Leeds and The Brit Awards, features the high flying excitement and daredevil thrills of masked Mexican Lucha Libre wrestling.  These larger than life characters, put on the most bizarre, surreal and utterly hilarious show, in the closest thing you will ever get to watching real life Superheroes taking on Supervillains. Who knows, you may even see a face or two you recognise in the ring?!

Garry Vanderhorne, director of Lucha Britannia, “I am so excited to be bringing the team down to Kapow!, I actually tried to come along last year as I’m a big fan of comics, but the event had totally sold out. The show we are putting together is going to be completely unique to Kapow! and guarantees to be a huge crowd pleaser.”
