I was slim and was not conventionally curvy up top if you know what I mean, so the blondes with big busts were getting the juicy roles. It had nothing to do with acting, hence the need for revoicing! However, the good looking young man in the corner came up to me and said in a loud voice, “I’d stop the traffic for you any day.” This was Sean Connery, who was to be the first James Bond in the series.

I appreciated his support for me in front of Terence Young. Having succeeded in getting the voice audition for Ursula, as soon as the filming was finished, I was called to the sound studio at Pinewood Studio, to revoice her. The process is known as post synchronisation.

Bond stars Daniel Craig and Judi Dench have been named the nation’s favourite movie stars of 2012 in a new poll from Sky Movies HD. 

The research, commissioned to celebrate the launch of the Sky Movies HD Christmas movie line up, asked over 1000 members of the UK public to choose their favourite actors and actresses from 2012. The results reflect those who have made the biggest impact with film fans over the past 12 months, highlighting another great year for film.

Daniel Craig, who has enjoyed record breaking success with the latest Bond film Skyfall, as well as a cameo appearance in this summer’s Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, won 26% of the votes for the male movie star of 2012. His co-star Judi Dench, who also starred in comedy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel earlier in the year, garnered 27%, topping the female list of most popular actresses for the year. 

After five films together, including this year’s Dark Shadows, it’s no surprise to see Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter together in second place with 11.5% and 10% respectively, proving Tim Burton is certainly on to a winner!

Answering the ultimate question, who would win out of Batman, Iron Man and the Men in Black, are the remaining entrants in the men’s top five with Will Smith in third (11.4%), Christian Bale in fourth (7%) and Robert Downey Jnr. following in fifth after his appearance in this summer’s highly successful Avengers Assemble. 

2012 has been another great year for funny women, with Cameron Diaz (What To Expect When You’re Expecting) and Mila Kunis (Ted) coming joint third (both 6%), whilst Anne Hathaway completed the top five after a year of superheroes and singing with her recent roles in The Dark Knight Rises and the upcoming Les Misérables (5.7%). 

The Woman In Black’s Daniel Radcliffe and The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence both narrowly missed out on top five positions despite having blockbuster hits. Shaving retailer reports sharp increase in cut throat sales after 007 gets the shave of his life. The Shaving Shack, the UK’s leading online retailer of premium shaving products, has attributed the latest James Bond movie for a whopping 405% increase in sales of cut throat razors. 

During a scene in Skyfall, British actress Naomie Harris gives 007, played by Daniel Craig, a close shave using a cut throat razor, whispering in his ear “sometimes the old ways are the best” as she performs the shave.

And The Shaving Shack says this intimate shaving scene is the reason for the dramatic sales surge over the last five days. 

The online retailer has also seen a 123% increase in web traffic since the film was released in the UK on October 26. Traffic from Internet searches for “cut throat razor” and “straight razor” have soared by a staggering 735% over the last five days, the firm added. 

Nick Gibbens, The Shaving Shack’s Brand Director, believes Bond’s legendary style and iconic status have inspired men to try out a new method of wet shaving. 

“Bond fans have an emotional attachment to 007, they love his Aston Martin cars, Omega watches and dinner suits. So it comes as no surprise that they have jumped on his love for cut throat razors.

“These luxury, old-school razors range in price from around £60 up to £300 so it’s fair to say that Bond fans are spending big to ensure they look as clean cut as 007.”

But Bond fans that can't splash out up to £300 on a razor are instead opting for a cut-price shavette - a close relative to the cut throat razor with the difference being that the blades can be changed. Sales of shavettes on The Shaving Shack website have risen by 509% since the release of Skyfall, with bumper sales of the budget £9.99 Bluebeards Revenge Shavette. 

The Shaving Shack says it’s delighted to see an increasing number of men ditching the multi-bladed cartridge razor in favour of a straight but they are also keen to point out the increased complexity of a cut throat shave.

Skyfall has now taken a staggering £94,277,612 at the UK box office in just 40 days on release, making box office history and overtaking the record previously held by Avatar which had a lifetime gross of £94,025, 632 million during 11 months on release in UK cinemas. 

SKYFALL, the 23rd James Bond adventure, continuing the longest running and most successful franchise in film history, opened in 587 cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Friday 26th October, and is still on general release.

"No Mr Bond, I expect you to die." named best Bond moment in Sky Movies HD poll

The laser-charged "No Mr Bond, I expect you to die." confrontation between Goldfinger and Sean Connery's Bond has been named the nation's favourite Bond moment in a new poll from Sky Movies HD to celebrate the return of its dedicated Bond channel Sky Movies 007/HD. 

After 50 years and 23 films to date, Sky Movies asked over 2,500 members of the public to name their favourite Bond moment as part of a special programme BOND¹S GREATEST MOMENTS which is available on Sky Movies 007/HD and On Demand. 

Hosted by Sky Movies presenter Alex Zane, the programme includes contributions from much-loved Bond stars including Daniel Craig and Judi Dench, Bond directors, producers and celebrity fans including Andrew Garfield and Hugh Jackman. When informed of the winning moment, which received 10.3% of the votes, current Bond star Daniel Craig admitted: "Yes, that would take some beating." 

Second in the poll was the breath-taking pre-title moment in The Spy Who Loved Me which showed Roger Moore skiing off the edge of an Austrian mountain to open a Union Jack parachute (7.6%), which narrowly beat the first ever, now definitive "Bond...James Bond" statement from Sean Connery in 1962's Dr. No, which was third with 5.7%. 

Marking a change in direction for Bond at the time, Daniel Craig's exciting parkour chase across a building site in Casino Royale was named in fourth place in the poll (5.3%) ahead of The Man With The Golden Gun's barrel roll car sequence, which saw Roger Moore¹s Bond perform a daring car jump across a Bangkok river (4.5%). 

Pierce Brosnan made his entry into the poll in sixth place with 3.3% for his tank chase through St. Petersburg in Goldeneye which just beat Roger Moore's novel crocodile 'stepping stone' escape in Live And Let Die in seventh (2.8%). Speaking about the moment, Hugh Jackman jokes: "Roger Moore escaping some situation by jumping over alligators¹ backs ­ am I remembering that right or was that an SNL spoof? It could have been." 

The eighth most popular Bond scene was back to four wheels for Daniel Craig¹s Quantum of Solace Aston Martin DBS race through the banks of Lake Garda (2.2%), followed by Desmond Llewellyn's final scene as Q in The World Is Not Enough where viewers saw him advise Pierce Brosnan to "pay attention 007" for the very last time (2%). 

A sombre moment rounds off the top ten of Bond moments, courtesy of On Her Majesty's Secret Service and George Lazenby's only turn as 007. Following a tumultuous relationship and just moments after marrying his bride Tracy (played by Diana Rigg), celebrations were cut short when Blofeld carried out a drive-by-shooting that killed her and left Bond grief-stricken (1.7%). 

All of these moments and more feature in BOND¹S GREATEST MOMENTS on Sky Movies 007/HD and On Demand.

BOND WRITERS CONFIRM THEIR DEPARTURE FROM THE FRANCHISE: ‘WE WERE GOING TO STOP AFTER QUANTUM. IS NICE TO GO OUT ON A HIGH WITH SKYFALL’

As Skyfall becomes the most successful Bond film in its 23 film history, British screenwriting duo Neal Purvis and Robert Wade took part in a master class at the fourth Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) to lift the lid on writing for one of the iconic film franchises of all time.

“When we were originally asked to come in to meet the Bond people, we weren’t expecting to be walking straight into a meeting with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson” said Neal Purvis, describing the moment they first started collaborating with franchise’s producers. “Usually there are many other layers of people that stop you getting to the head honchos and we certainly were not expecting to be kept around for 15 years”

“When we met Eon Productions, only two of our screenplays had been made into films. It just seemed preposterous to us that they wouldn’t have other writers on the project” added Robert Wade. “But they’d read a few of our other scripts and liked our sense of character and action. If there’s action without a story or a character angle, then it’s just boring.”

Meeting at 22, the pair who has been writing together for 28 years wrote their first script during the Los Angeles Olympic Games.

“The British Film industry in 1984 was not in a great shape. We’d write pop video’s to make extra money,” said Purvis. ”The tragedy is we were getting paid in the 80’s what screenwriters are still being paid today”

Since then, they’ve written a total of 41 scripts, with ten being made into films. Wade said “We were told don’t expect anymore than one in ten of your screen plays to be made. She was right. We thought yes, that’s probably true, however that won’t apply to us.”

“Now were on our 41st script and have have ten films made. You wouldn’t write each day if you didn’t believer that your scripts were going to be made,” added Purvis.

Addressing the production delays this latest outing, the duo shed light on how important this additional time was “We benefited from the delays as we hadn’t gotten the story right. The film would not have been made without them,” explained Wade.

“The third act wasn’t right. We gave ourselves a few weeks to come up with a new concept, which ultimately became a metaphor for our journey working on these movies – our own Skyfall” added Purvis.

When pushed on if the partners were intending to write more Bond films Wade said “We’re very happy to have done five Bond movies, I think we’ve gotten it to a good place. I know that John Logan and Sam Mendes have come up with a plot for another one, which takes the pressure off because these films take up a lot of time.”

Purvis added, “We were going to stop with Quantum of Solace, but it’s good to go out on a high with Skyfall.”

Asked about other projects outside of Bond, Wade divulged “We did get hired to write a script about Elton John stealing 11 of the best footballers in the world, to play against a team of robots on another planet. “That was our second paid job,” explained Purvis.

And what’s the only thing as a bond writer you can’t do? “Time Travel” says Purvis. “And killing him off” said Wade, before adding “although we have been tempted”
