only lovers left alive I may like Jim Jarmusch's films but I love Jim Jarmusch's genre films, the ones where he takes on more fanciful material and gets to the humanity under them. I am of course talking about his unique take on genre themes and merging of cultural, literary & existential references - like when he took on the Western genre with Dead Man starring Johnny Depp - Asian Cinema with Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai starring Forest Whitaker - espionage with The Limits of Control starring Isaach De Bankolé and now vampires with his electro rock fable Only Lovers Left Alive starring Tom Hiddleston as Adam, Tilda Swinton as Eve, Mia Wasikowska as Ava and John Hurt as Marlowe.

Sadly I have already seen Only Lovers Left Alive and it is my favourite film of 2014, so far. I say sadly as I have been waiting for it for ages and would have been happy to wait another six months for the pleasure of seeing it. Whilst emo vampires may be a bit of a cliche - Jarmusch turns it arounds to create a fresh and wonderful piece of film wherein he explores modern humanity, old and new worlds colliding, whilst reinvigorating the vampire mythos tinged with dark humour

Gorgeously shot with an incredible soundtrack merging to create different ambient tones that juxtapose against each other adding unique personality to the characters, places and times they live in. I'm not going to bang on about the performances but it was a real joy to see Tom Hiddleston, Tilda SwintonJohn HurtMia Wasikowska, Anton Yelchin and Jeffrey Wright in roles that they can bring to life in their own individual ways. I couldn't imagine anyone else playing these parts as they seem tailored to each of the performers strengths.

The Establishing Shot: ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE TRAILER - 21 FEBRUARY 2014

Well this evening there is an early preview of Jim Jarmusch's Only Lovers Left Alive followed by a live show at Heaven, where musicians from the soundtrack such as White Hills, Jozef Van Wissem, Yasmine Hamdan, and Jim Jarmusch's band SQÃœRL - will all play live!!!!!

I should say that Jim Jarmusch & SQÃœRL's contribution to the soundtrack is far from token or novel their electro sound are sublime and perfectly attuned to add to the emptiness and loneliness of the world that the vampires live in echoed by White Hills (who I thought was fronted by Alice Cooper in the film) and Jozef Van Wissem avant-garde electro wailing juxtaposed against the soothing and dulcet sounds of Yasmine Hamdan creates a marvellous merging;  timelessness/yet of the time, isolation/worldly ambience.

Only Lovers Left Alive Gig
Only Lovers Left Alive Gig
Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, an underground musician, deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover.

Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister.

Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?

With an all-star cast including Oscar winner TILDA SWINTON (The Grand Budapest Hotel, We Need To Talk About Kevin), TOM HIDDLESTON (The Avengers, Thor), ANTON YELCHIN (Star Trek Into Darkness), MIA WASIKOWSKA (Stoker, Lawless) and JOHN HURT (Harry Potter, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE is the apotheosis of American Independent film and underground music combined, from acclaimed  director JIM JARMUSCH (Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai and Dead Man).  Oozing cool and dry wit, ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE also features an original soundtrack with music by Jozef Van Wissem, SQÃœRL and more.

This is a rare opportunity to see and experience an incredible soundtrack that will no doubt live on in the heart and minds of aficionados for a long long time.

Beginning with a screening of the film in ODEON Leicester Square at 6:45 doors for a 7:15pm start, followed by a live show at Heaven, where musicians from the soundtrack such as White Hills, Jozef Van Wissem, Yasmine Hamdan, and Jim Jarmusch's band SQÃœRL - will all play live.
